Anika Moa - National Tour this October
Posted: Mon Sep 12, 2005 7:17 pm
Following the release of her critically-acclaimed sophomore album Stolen Hill, Anika Moa takes to our highways next month on an extensive tour throughout the country.

Anika Moa is a singer/songwriter who needs little introduction. She burst onto the New Zealand music scene
4 years ago with the double-platinum album 'Thinking Room'. Singles such as 'Youthful', 'Good In My Head', and 'Falling In Love Again' became massive hits and led the charge in the renaissance of local music on commercial radio.

After much time spent on the debut album, Anika chose to invest time back into herself: strolling New Zealand, tasting the air, floating on the water, meeting the people and enjoying this life. "I just lived", she says, "and then got back into songwriting."

Inspired by her travels, a fruitful creative period spawned the songs that form the much anticipated Stolen Hill, an album of honesty and realness imbued with a deep sense of self.

“Sad yet staunch, tender and intimate, willing to grapple with universal issues and swirling with ancestral spirits, it blends the personal and the political in ways Moa has never before attempted, resulting in the best songs she's written.”

To celebrate the release of this album, Anika and The Plastic Tiki Band are taking to the road in huge national tour, playing 22 shows in 26 days and touching down in 20 centres, from Whangarei to Invercargill, with Gisborne, Nelson and Featherston amongst the many places they will stop along the way. Joining her on the tour will be The Plastic Tiki Band, featuring the musical talents of Willy Scott on drums, Stephanie Brown
on keys, Neil Watson on guitar, Aaron Murphy on bass, with Anna Coddington (Duchess, Handsome Geoffrey, Relaxomatic Project) providing both backing vocals and an opening solo set.

“Poignant and original.”
**** (4 stars) - Grant Smithies, Sunday Star-Times

The second single from the album, the beautiful Wrestled With Your Angels, is at radio now.
Watch out for the video for that track, due at the end of this month.

Of her latest release Anika says:
"I'm very proud of the album, I've worked real hard for it. I've learnt to be happy with myself and to be strong with whatever I say in my lyrics and whatever I do musically. I'm Maori, I'm from New Zealand, and this is my sound. Stolen Hill is a completely New Zealand album. It's so New Zealand you could chuck it on the barbie."

See Anika Moa and The Plastic Tiki Band live in concert at a venue near you this October.
Tickets for all shows are on sale now.
