Steve Earle NZ Tour
Posted: Sat Oct 8, 2005 1:48 pm
Thoughtful and politically charged country rocker Steve Earle and his band The Dukes, is set to tour New Zealand nationally in November 2005 on the back of his current album of vehement cow-punk anthems and ballads, 'The Revolution Starts…Now'.

For his 2005 New Zealand tour, Earle will be joined by soul, roots rock artist Allison Moorer, who will be opening all the concerts. Sister of Shelby Lynne, Moorer trades in a particularly complimentary style of ragged, loose country, a world where wailing guitars meet passionate vocals and confrontational song writing.

Steve Earle’s contribution to the merging of progressive country to the wider rock audience remains huge. Indeed, there is every reason to believe that the entire genre of “alt. Country” would not exist without Earle’s ground-breaking extension of what used to be called “folk-rock.”

His recorded work, from the classic 1986 'Guitartown' onward through such excitingly heartfelt/redemptive works as 'Copperhead Road', 'I Feel Alright', 'El Corazon', 'Transcendental Blues', to his current release, represents an extraordinary catalogue of deeply personal music which compares favorably with such esteemed heroes as Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, or even Bob Dylan.

'The Revolution Starts…Now' is an impassioned call for people to join the singer in rallying for the social democratic rights he and they believe in. As Earle says in the liner notes, “the war will go on, outsourcing of our jobs will continue, and over a third of our citizens will have no health care coverage whatsoever.”

The album was met with the solid acclaim each Steve Earle release has become accustomed to receiving.

Mojo Magazine said, “It’s a fine album, mixing lean rock anthems... with the kind of ballads lesser artists would need years to write.” Stylus said, “Where Jerusalem was all reaction, humanely riddled with helplessness and incomprehension, The Revolution Starts...Now is the well-honed response, a focused act of civil disobedience.”

In addition to his musical output, Earle has been, for the past two decades, one of the more compellingly engaged figures on the American cultural landscape. He is the author of best-selling works of fiction (“Doghouse Roses”), a playwright, and a well-known speaker and presence in a variety of left-leaning populist movements.

In concert, Steve Earle and company expertly supply rocking ruminations of life, love and loss.
