It’s no secret that one of the hottest bands in the world at the moment – the Arctic Monkeys – is touring New Zealand later this year.

So it should come as no surprise to learn that the support slot for this tour has been highly sought after (to say the least)!

Frontier Touring thought it made perfect sense to award the slot to another exciting and talented young band. Enter Australian trio, The Grates.

For the past three years, The Grates have been wooing music lovers the world over with their fun and quirky pop.

The trio – Patience, Alana and John – have consistently yielded hit after hit, including “Trampoline”, “Rock Boys”, Sukkafish” and “Message”, not to mention the super-catchy new tune “19-20-20” from their forthcoming debut album Gravity Won’t Get You High (soon to be released in New Zealand through Dew Process/Universal Music).

Prior to winning this coveted support slot, The Grates performed with The Go! Team, Rocket Science, Wolfmother, Be Your Own Pet, We Are Scientists and the 5, 6, 7, 8’s – fine-tuning their crazy, energetic live shows in the process. Not bad for three high-school friends who made their first recordings in John’s dad’s shed!
