dunedinmusic.com turns one year old Posted: Wed Jul 12, 2006 5:42 pm In July 2005, a website was launched in Dunedin to represent and promote Dunedin’s musicians and music industry, and to record Dunedin’s musical history. Just one year later the team at www.dunedinmusic.com: · Have listed over 200 artists on the site. · Have documented details for over 2100 musical performances. · Have built a vibrant on-line community with over 500 members . · Released two promotional compilation CDs and is hard at work on a third · Collaborated with the University of Otago, The Dunedin City Council, and the Otago Chamber of Commerce to provide Dunedin musicians of all genres with opportunities to further their careers. · Continues to provide the latest in news and articles relating to the music scene in Dunedin, and about artists from Dunedin. We have also been working hard on new features for the site, as well as a slew of upgrades and a fresh new look. These new features will be rolled out over the coming weeks. While it’s been a crazy 12 months and we have enjoyed every minute of it we thought the 1 year milestone was a pretty big one, and to celebrate, we’ve asked some of our friends to help us throw a party! On Saturday 22 July we are bringing you two great musical events. 24 acts will be playing over the course of the day and night. On Sunday 23 July we are hosting a series of free music industry workshops. These workshops are open to all ages. These events are to be held at the Backstage Bar, Bath Street, Dunedin. On the Saturday an all-ages event starts at 1.30pm and over the course of the afternoon 9 acts will play including this year’s Otago regional winners of the Smokefree Rockquest and the 2006 OUSA Battle of the Bands winners. An R18 event starts at 7pm and we have lined up 15 acts covering a wide range of musical styles. Take this opportunity to come along and support some of the best exponents of today’s Dunedin sound. Rob Milne, founding director of Dunedin music.com comments: “We couldn’t be happier with what we have achieved over the last year and showcasing the cream of Dunedin’s music scene seems like the perfect way to celebrate and show our appreciation to those who have supported us. The free workshops we are holding are also a great chance for Dunedin’s musicians to up-skill further as well.” Full schedule of events: Saturday 22 July ALL AGES GIG, 1:30-6:00PM - The Taliband - Vanadis - The 'Bones - DJ Baden - Taking The Fall - Martin Phillipps - Hot Justice - The Gideons - Kill The Fake Patient R18 GIG, 7:00PM-LATE - Simon Kerr - The Gladeyes - Hannah Curwood - The Retrophonic Funk Machine - Delgirl - The Chills - Anji Sami - The Tomahawks - Aaron Sharma - Onanon - Soul Surface - Soulsellor - Sunley - Gestalt Switch - Urban Terror Unit Prices: All ages: $5 public / $3 dunedinmusic.com member R18: $7 public / $5 dunedinmusic.com member Both shows: $10 public / $7 dunedinmusic.com member Note: THERE WILL BE LIMITED DOOR SALES ONLY Sunday 23 July 11am: Stagecraft with John Egenes The relationship between you the artists and your audience.
