Anika Moa Wraps Up An Extraordinary Year With Her First Ever Solo Tour. Posted: Mon Sep 11, 2006 4:14 pm She’s spent much of the year touring with the likes of Neil Finn, Bic Runga and Dimmer’s Shayne Carter. And in April she joined Bic Runga for a two-month stint in the UK, but now Anika Moa is back and set to charm the country with her first ever solo tour. The nationwide tour showcases the enchanting singer/songwriter’s personal and unflinchingly honest insight to her world and the inspiration she draws from the New Zealand landscape both political and physical. While headlining shows and industry showcases for audiences off shore is important, Moa is eager to share her talents with the people and places that inspire her. “I’m Maori, I’m from New Zealand, and this is my sound, this is my New Zealand sound, this is how I depict New Zealand as being.” Her tour takes her from Queenstown to Keri Keri - a route well traveled while she spent two years seeking homegrown experience in preparation for her latest album “Stolen Hill”. Moa describes the songs from her album as real and imbued with a sense of self and country. And New Zealand clearly likes what her songs have to say. Not only has she been named finalist for Best Female Solo Artist and Best Aotearoa Roots Album in the New Zealand Music Awards 2006, but she is also a first time finalist for New Zealand’s most prestigious songwriting prize, the 2006 APRA Silver Scroll Award. Moa has been nominated for her single “Stolen Hill” from the album of the same name. A single described as captivating and emotive – and from an album that reflects a natural process of maturity, which has extended to her songwriting. This tour is an opportunity to experience Anika Moa’s very personal performance and appreciate a songwriter as she shares her Aotearoa with New Zealand.
