Anika Moa with Miriam Clancy Posted: Mon Nov 6, 2006 3:36 pm Recently Anika Moa checked out new-comer Miriam Clancy playing at a local venue. Anika was so impressed she has asked Miriam to play in support of her at her Auckland shows this week. Naturally, Miriam has agreed and is.. well.. stoked! At a recent support slot for internationally revered Ron Sexsmith, Miriam was reviewed as “really something special” by the NZ Herald, who has been “getting some deserved attention for her independent debut Lucky One who opened the night with a impressive acoustic set which nicely dialled back the rockier numbers from the album and simply enchanted on the bittersweet ballads”. Miriam Clancy is a star ascendant on the NZ Music scene. Her debut album, ‘Lucky One’ was released to high praise from music critics nationwide and the album debuted at number 9 on the NZ Independent Music Charts in its first month of release. Miriam is about to embark on an extensive national tour and shall be capturing hearts and minds as she does so. Miriam Clancy grew up in Foxton, Manawatu but now resides in Auckland. Her career has taken her much further a field, from Malaysia to the United States. This experience has honed her live performance to that of a confident heart felt young woman that is wooing all her audiences. Miriam’s apprenticeship has included a variety of roles including fronting local bands, acting musical director and choreographer for corporate shows, session studio recording and assisting sound engineer for prominent recording studios. In 2001 Miriam felt ready to step out from behind the safety net of ‘being in the trade’ for a more personal approach, by focusing solely on writing and performing her own music. From a base of music theory, practice and a deep well of personal experience, she has created a wealth of songs which carry a simple beauty that moves from haunting to powerful. Her voice captures a rare depth of soul and honesty. It has been a long journey, but Miriam Clancy has arrived. “beautifully beguiling, bare to the bones…” – 5 star album review Sunday Star Times “she's just as impressive brooding elegantly through another break-up or shouting the house down.” – Russell Baillie, NZ Herald 4 star album review Tabac, Auckland. Thursday November 9th Masonic, Devonport Auckland. Friday November 10th Tickets on-sale now from Ticketek & Real Groovy. |
