HO HO HODOWN06 press release
Posted: Thu Dec 7, 2006 1:18 pm
Making its debut in 2004 as Christchurch’s local punk rock event, it has evolved over the two years it has been in effect into the most anticipated South Island tour of the year. In its 8 shows the tour this year travels through Dunedin, Nelson, Timaru, Queenstown and Christchurch. Sponsored by Kiwi FM, Jagermeister, Alcoholic Clothing and boasting some of the most recognised names in the New Zealand punk, rock and hardcore scenes, the Ho Ho Hodown 06 promises to be one show that you shouldn’t miss.

Fresh off the road from their 22 date tour of Europe, Cold By Winter have earned their way into the hearts and minds of the New Zealand music scene. Playing alongside a plethora of international and local acts the likes of Most Precious Blood, Hot Water Music, Mudvayne, The Bleeders, Kitsch and Blindspott they took out the coveted spot of headlining the Local Main stage at Taste Of Chaos. A large undertaking for a band that only 2 years ago decided to form, this year they take up the coveted spot as the headlining act for the Ho Ho Hodown 06.

Playing alongside this internationally recognised band are local hero’s Flying Solo, with catchy riffs and their own spin on fast paced punk rock they are turning heads throughout the South Island. Supporting bands such as 48May and Quarter 2 they are quickly climbing their way up in the New Zealand Music industry. Their latest headline show at the Christchurch Dux De Lux showed off their local following of 150-200 punters rocking out to their memorable melodies. This is one band you should never underestimate, and definitely not to miss, you can catch them this year as the support slot for the Ho Ho Hodown 06 as they tour their latest release of the largely anticipated EP ‘Letting Go’.

Playing the Christchurch leg of the tour are two exceptional bands that Christchurch has lost to the North Island for bigger and better things yet return in 06 to get back to their hometown roots for 2 amazing shows.

Falter were first recognised in 2003 as a young 3 piece who won the National Rockquest, from that point on their talent and popularity has skyrocketed. By September 2006 Falter had completed one of the biggest tours in New Zealand History, the Boost Mobile Schools tour racked up over 100 live for Falter ranging from Invercargill to Whangarei. You can catch Falter on the 23rd at either the All Ages or R18 Christchurch shows.

Following Rockquest in 2003, Starlett’s bassist, Lisa Blatchford had a phone call that changed their lives. It was Malcolm Black from Sony BMG and he was calling to sign them - the rest is likely to be NZ music history. Now in 2006 having released two videos on C4 Music Television and singles played on a multitude of radio stations, Starlett has become a nationally recognized name. They will be returning to their hometown for 2 shows only, don’t miss your chance to see this amazing all girl line up.

With Jagermeister bringing the party [with the exception of the All Ages Shows ofcourse] and Alcoholic clothing keeping us all looking cool, you’d be crazy to lose out on this opportunity for some good old fashion punk rock fun. So keep an ear out on Kiwi FM for the dates and times in your city and some wicked prize pack giveaways. Don’t miss your chance to catch this amazing lineup and amp up your Christmas time fun!
