NZ Fringe Festival takes flight this Friday
Posted: Tue Jan 16, 2007 1:26 pm
The curtain is set to rise for the New Zealand Fringe Festival – now in its 14th year – beginning with the Programme Launch this Friday, January 19.

The launch will announce all of the events, performances, shows and artistic endeavours that make up the Fringe 07 line-up, and provides the first opportunity for the media to immerse itself in Fringe culture for this year.

The Programme Launch is 6pm Friday, January 19 at the San Francisco Bathhouse, Cuba St, Wellington.

A total of 98 shows will produce 538 performances over Fringe ’07, which runs from February 9 to March 4, and comprises 56 theatre shows, 14 music, 9 outdoor events, 11 visual arts and 8 dance shows.

“It’s a bumper crop of creativity for Fringe ’07 and our rather heavy 96-page programme proves it,” said Fringe 07 director Karen Blyth.

The Fringe Festival Programme Launch is a highlight on the arts and entertainment calendar, capturing the essence of Fringe culture as participants in costume nakedly flaunt their shows to media and guests.

There will be a statement from the Prime Minster read and Wellington mayor Kerry Prendergast will be in attendance. All-female DJ crew Too Many She-Jays will provide entertainment.

“The Programme Launch begins the build-up that celebrates new, cutting-edge, thought-provoking and inspiring creativity, not to mention downright fun and weirdness, in New Zealand’s arts and entertainment community,” said Ms Blyth.
