Mad Beef Presents: Basement Cuts Posted: Sat Feb 10, 2007 1:51 pm MAD BEEF PRESENTS: BASEMENT CUTS FRIDAY FEBURARY 23rd 11PM TILL VERY VERY LATE INDEED Tired of the same old slop being dished out around and about the city of Dunedin, local purveyors of fine tunes have rallied behind the Mad Beef posse to bring you Basement Cuts, Dunedin's latest and finest underground club night catering for the discerning dancer. Throwing down a gauntlet of epic proportions, Basement Cuts direct dials to your frontal lobe with monthly lashings of dusty funk and soul, skewed psych, sweet Jamaican treats and the nicest in deep and funky house and garage tunes for dancers young and old. Each month, Mad Beef puts together a lineup just for you. Some of these DJ culprits are household names. Others will be legends in their own lounge-rooms. The common factor is damn fine aural selections. On Friday February 23rd, Basement Cuts kicks off their push for domination with an epic night of bassline madness in their suitably underground home of Re:Fuel, 'neath the great modernist slabs of the Otago University Union. All the way from Auckland, Tongan sex machine and house legend Soane is packing his bags full of funky listening lollies to nice up the dance. Throwing together the finest in house, garage, hip-hop and solid funk goodness, Soane is a living legend in the New Zealand dance scene, and he'll also be bringing a swag of new tunes from his follow up album to 2004's stonker Tongan Chic. His last set here in Dunedin exploded out into the street, so don't miss this triumphant return! Coming along for the ride, English émigré Steve Barber draws on twenty years of getting the party started with one of his legendary club selections to fire up the dancefloor. Specialising in both funky house syles and the deeper, darker basslines of New York House and New Jersey Garage, this grinning geezer has all your bases covered. Out the front in the drinking station, Radio One's own DJs Boof and Manick will be taking turns throwing on party tunes and drinking beers. It's like old school soul, golden era hip-hop, bubbling bossa nova, Cubop, Afrobeat all-stars and deep slabs of Jamaican funk thrown together with one of those new fangled Magic Bullets. Celebrity endorsement pending. Tickets are on sale from OUSA from February 12th, and are a paltry ten bucks, five dollars for students and three dollars with an ANZ Onecard. Holy shit!
