Silverchair, Powderfinger announce NZ tour

Top Australian rock bands Silverchair and Powderfinger have announced a joint tour of four New Zealand cities in October.

Both bands have had multi-million selling albums and had recent releases that went straight to the top of the Australian music charts.

At each show, the groups will play sets of equal length with their full concert production, and a Kiwi act is being lined up to open the shows.

The event has been a long time coming, say members of Powderfinger.

"We met the Silver chaps back in 1994 and became friends," they said in a press release.

"At the time, we played some festivals together and talked about doing some touring down the track. It's only taken us 13 years to get around to it."

The tour starts at Christchurch's Westpac Arena on October 16, followed by Wellington's TSB Arena on October 18, Palmerston North's Arena Manawatu on October 19 and Auckland's Vector Arena on October 20.
