Liam Finn to tour this November
Posted: Wed Sep 26, 2007 7:17 pm
Following the extraordinarily positive reviews of his solo shows in May and July of this year, Liam Finn returns to New Zealand in November to play a string of dates around the country.

Dates and venues are:

Thu 8/11 - Auckland – Church Of The Holy Sepulchre
Fri 9/11 - Christchurch – St Michaels And All Angels church
Sat 10/11 - Dunedin – Backstage Bar
Thu 15/11 - Auckland – Kings Arms Tavern
Fri 16/11 - Wellington – San Francisco Bath House
Sat 17/11 - Leigh – Leigh Sawmill

And Liam’s debut solo album ‘I’ll be Lightning’ continues to garner glowing press reviews like these:

“Endearing and thrilling” and “Every track is a gem” according to the Sydney Daily Telegraph (Kathy McCabe)

“..in I’ll Be Lightning, Finn has irrevocably proved the singularity of his talent” according to Real Groove Magazine (Duncan Grieves), who concluded that “The nakedness and beguilingly hand-hewn nature of the album’s construction suggest a project instinctively assembled, absolutely reflective of it’s author’s obsessions, and this is ultimately what makes I’ll Be Lightning such a triumph.”

In the same magazine, Reuben Bonner added that “Liam Finn came of age a long time ago, but this album will let everyone who wasn’t already aware that this talented young man has a long musical future ahead of him.”

"…with his pedigree stamped fairly obviously across songs like Better To Be and the beautifully haunting 'Gather To The Chapel', ('I’ll Be Lightning') is a personal and honest record.." - Rip It Up NZ (Tom Chapman)

"Finn explores the realms of his stupendous imagination with daunting multi-instrumental capabilities” and “..one need only listen to 'Gather To The Chapel' to note the different qualities that experimenting on his own has produced" was the view of the NZ Debate Magazine (Sarah Gooding)

"'I’ll Be Lightning' is a strong debut in every sense, lyrically, stylistically and instrumentally. Gather To The Chapel is definitely a highlight.." Oamaru Mail (Tony Nielsen)

"Liam Finn ..helps to redefine the concept of a solo album, and.. 'I’ll Be Lightning' is bursting with ideas" - Melbourne Herald-Sun (Cameron Adams)

"Fourteen tracks and not a remotely dull one in sight, all awash in interesting textures which never bury the strong songwriting contained therein." - Waikato Times (Adrian McNicol)

"Liam Finn’s solo album has a very different aesthetic, largely because he produced it himself… and also played almost all of the instruments himself…Many of the songs are so sad and sweet, so shaky and soulful, I can’t get them out of my head. They strike me as small triumphs of direct emotional expression, without a word or chord wasted." - Sunday Star-Times (Grant Smithies)

The new single is 'Gather To The Chapel' – commercial release Nov 5 (available on CD (eco-friendly and with bonus DVD) or limited edition 7” vinyl
