Grey Lynn Park Festival
Posted: Thu Oct 25, 2007 5:19 pm
The old Grey Lynn swamp once known as Tukitukimuka, now known as Grey Lynn Park, will be transformed with the sound of music and celebration by the Grey Lynn Park Festival on Saturday November 17th. This tradition has continued for 23 years and has built up to be a major event on the Auckland Festival calendar. It is a combination of hundreds of handicraft and food stalls, four stages of varied entertainment plus the hope of a fine day which makes for a great fair.

This year the music coordinators have used a fresh approach by including more up and coming younger bands as a way of helping them launch their acts and hone their performance skills. The Rangitahi Stage will also feature a number of local schools, culture groups and entertainers.

Many styles are represented on the four stages by more than 30 groups playing reggae, funk, world music, jazz, hip hop, blues, ska and afrobeat . Acts on the day will include Grand Central Band, Unity Pacific, The Jews Brothers, Carribeanz Southern Stars Steel Band, Gahu, Easy, and the 25 piece Auckland Mandolinata Orchestra.

The festival is organised by the Grey Lynn Park Festival Trust Board and it is the support and commitment of the many volunteer workers from the local community and organisations such as Mainz Music School, the Maori wardens, the North Shore Radio Club, all stall holders and sound crews as well as the music that has made this a special day for so many years.
