Rhythm & Vines adds Bloc Party to the party! Posted: Mon Nov 26, 2007 1:22 pm Rhythm & Vines, New Zealand’s premiere New Year’s Eve event, is pleased to announce an exciting edition to the lineup: BLOC PARTY (DJ SET, feat. Kele Okereke) (UK) www.myspace.com/blocparty The lead singer KELE for the group behind anthems like 'Banquet' and 'Hunting for Witches' and their latest single ‘Flux” will be on the decks dropping massive tracks on New Year’s Eve! Bloc Party is an English alternative rock band that got its big break after Okereke went to a Franz Ferdinand concert in 2003, and thrust a copy of their single “Marshals are Dead” into the hands of Franz lead singer Alex Kapranos and Radio One DJ Steve Lamacq. Lamacq played the song on his radio show, labeling the track "genius.” The buzz lead to a second single "Banquet", and signing with indie label Wichita Recordings. Bloc Party’s debut album Silent Alarm, released in February 2005, was met with critical acclaim and broke sales records, being voted by NME critics as the 2005 album of the year and reaching #3 on UK album charts (platinum). The debut single from the album "So Here We Are" made the top 5 on UK charts. The band achieved great reviews from critics in the U.S.A and Silent Alarm went on to sell more than 350,000 copies in North America and over a million worldwide. Bloc Party became one of the most popular new bands of 2005. The Chemical Brothers collaborated with Okereke for "Believe", a track on their Push the Button album. Bloc Party released their second album A Weekend in the City in February 2007. The album debuted at #12 in the Billboard 200, and reached the #2 spot in the Official UK Chart. This record showed an evolved sound, more layered and less raw. With the release of their new single “Flux”, in October 2007, Bloc Party's style moves to incorporate electronic music. Check out their video clip FLUX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsIMTwVaGyw The Rhythm & Vines audience can look forward to the dynamic Kele spinning a selection of favourites and remixes from Bloc Party’s repertoire, as well as other tracks he thinks are dope.
