Storehouse Posted: Sat Jan 5, 2008 5:29 pm Storehouse Live at The Wine Cellar Auckland 11 January 2008 9.30pm > very late $10 R18 Witness some freaky and fevered blues re-imaginings at the Wine Cellar, St Kevin's Arcade, K'Rd, with the return of Auckland blues and spirituals duo Storehouse from an acclaimed 33-date four-country world tour that climaxed with two sold out shows at the Wellington International Jazz Festival. Their music is raw, agitating, and never less than entertaining and danceable. UK-based singer/guitarist Tom Rodwell returns to NZ with an esoteric repertoire of slave-era spirituals and work-songs, transformed with the help of bassist Joe Pineapple and occasional guests into stomping, hypnotic improvisations that reveal new depths to a music too often thought of as fusty. More information: www.myspace.com/storehousemusic www.youtube.com/user/storehousemusic Press: Time Out: "Edgy, funky & visceral." Blues in London: "Seemingly without trying Tom Rodwell manages to eschew the cliches that beset a lot of blues music. By turns wild, angry, hypnotic and sensual, it's as uncompromising as it is funky and some of the best live music I've seen in a long time." Michael Pickett (Juno Award winner): "Real groove, no pretension, zero bullsh*t, that is rare it seems." Otis Taylor (Grammy Award nominee, Handy Award Winner): "Thanks for making my job a lot harder man." (c)2008 Fireplace Recordings |
