George and Queen Posted: Sat Feb 23, 2008 10:20 am To celebrate the ongoing success of their debut album 'City' AND to give audiences a glimpse of new material including the new single 'Turning Over', upcoming folk band George and Queen will be embarking on a eight-date nationwide tour during the months of April and May as a four-piece live band. New single 'Turning Over' will be hitting airwaves soon and is poised to repeat the success of previous singles 'Why Don't You?' and 'Didn't Mean It That Way', the latter of which spent eight weeks on Kiwi FM’s Top Ten (including two weeks at number one). The songwriting duo extraordinaire of Immi Paterson and Neil Newton will be joined by Rich Pharaoh (drums) and Panduka Samamasinghe (bass). Tour dates are as follows: South Island (touring with Christchurch/Archhill band Pine) 23 April - Lyttleton - Wunderbar 24 April - Dunedin - The Backstage Bar 25 April - Queenstown - The Dux de Lux 26 April - Christchurch - The Dux de Lux North Island/Upper South (touring with Wellington band Peneloping) 1 May - Palmerston North - Bar Mode 2 May - Wellington - Bodega 3 May - Nelson - Yaza Cafe Auckland 10 May - Auckland - Wine Cellar “It's a wonderfully understated and carefully crafted collection of quite fantastic songs. It’s fun, ever-so-slightly quirky, but never zany.” – Cheese on Toast "Sounds of sparse deserts and lulling rivers are a tribute to the vocal prowess of Immi Paterson and the musical compositions themselves… a sweeping, stuttering soundscape." – NZ Musician "knowing, psychedelically informed folk, George and Queen occasionally conjure the spirit of long-gone Dunedin alt-strum groups as well as the clever cheese of Stereolab and the austere bare bones pop of Young Marble Giants." – Metro Debut album 'City' out on Gone Quiet Records www.gonequiet.com www.myspace.com/georgeandqueen |
