Curtain Call Posted: Tue Jun 17, 2008 4:50 pm RDU presents CURTAIN CALL FRIDAY 4th JULY REPERTORY THEATRE, KILMORE STREET, CHRISTCHURCH With Jeremiah Ross aka Module – Pine – Flip Grater and band – hosted by….Wammo and Spanky! The Repertory Theatre has a proud history, having hosted live performances in Christchurch since 1929, and it looks forward to its 400th production this year. Though 2008 welcomes another year of great entertainment for this bastion of live performance, it is found in desperate need of earthquake strengthening and renovation. The Theatre is a protected site, but the Repertory will be forced to close, and may fall into the hands of commercial developers, if sufficient funds are not raised to complete a planned theatre ‘re-stage’. To raise awareness and funds for the Repertory Theatre, and many more buildings like it across the country, a unique concert featuring Jeremiah Ross (aka Module), Pine and Flip Grater, will take place in July. This seated concert event will showcase these local gems in the less conventional setting of this stunning theatre. The entertainment... Jeremiah Ross (aka Module) Perhaps most recognised in his electronic work as Module, and even more so for his soundtrack being included in the well-known ‘Have a Love Affair with Wellington’ TV ad campaign. Curtain Call will see Jeremiah Ross explore his contemporary classical piano repertoire as heard on both Fly My Pretties albums. The Repertory Theatre will highlight this versatile musician’s diverse talents – prepare to be awestruck. Pine Christchurch based popsters Pine have been impressing crowds on the local and international scene for more than a decade, with their clever, catchy songs. “A splendid combination of Britpop and jangly Kiwi pop” is how their sound is described at www.muzik.net, and all the more splendid is their interesting instrumentation - they rely on a minimal line-up of electric guitar organ and snare. Rip it Up can’t get enough of them either, writing that “Pine have not only revisited the long forgotten art of writing simple songs with simple melodies but aren't too far off perfecting it." Flip Grater with Band Flip Grater has performed her introverted indie-folk songs with a number of New Zealand’s premiere artists, several international artists and has performed at the prestigious SXSW festival in Texas. Her song Long Awaited Sigh was recently heard on the season final soundtrack for hit US TV show, Brothers And Sisters and her song Where’s The Door was featured on a SAFE TV3 Ad campaign. Flip’s sophomore release Be All And End All is due out July 2008. She will be performing at Curtain Call with her new band including Kris Wilson (banjo), Simon Hall (mandolin, electric guitar) and Simon Brouwer (drums). This is a fundraiser event – all proceeds will be donated the Repertory Theatre Society. Show your support for this very worthwhile casue and get your tickets now from Real Groovy and participating Underground Coffee stores for $25 (or $20 with your RDUnited card). Proudly sponsored by: RDU, Maiden Records, CHART, Underground Coffee, Real Groovy, thebigcity.co.nz and The New Embassy. |
