Plus we've been able to open up the scope of musical genres to cover a much broader musical range. We're really pleased with our selection of international headliners which will cover all three of our big festival days, we hope by stepping up the overall Rhythm and Vines experience through expanded arenas, improved sound systems, hi tech lighting and visual effects, that we'll be able! to take this event to new heights and create the ultimate three day music festival experience," says Burrows.

Hamish Pinkham, Program Director and co-founder, revealed to AJPR "We hope music lovers around the country will be really excited about the direction that Rhythm and Vines is heading in. The line-up reflects a new and diverse change in the direction of New Zealand music. We're very proud to be promoting so much Kiwi talent this year alongside a massive international line-up, never seen before in New Zealand! There are also many kiwi acts returning home for the festival who've gone on to do well abroad; it's about time we had a festival that can get us all together. Fans should be excited because the first wave of musical acts that we're announcing now is less than a third of the overall line up," he says.

Rhythm and Vines third lineup announcement

With a lineup already fill to the brim with international and local musical superstars, we have just given you a little more to twist and shout about. So its now official, festival fans have only one destination to consider for New Year's '08 - Gisborne, the first city in the world to see the sun rise!

So if you haven't got your ticket yet then we advise you to get in quick! Sales are well up on last year with two thirds of tickets already sold! With early birds long sold out the current ticket price for all three days is $185 but they won't last long. So avoid disappointment and get onto www.rhythmandvines.co.nz to grab one.

Here's what you've been waiting for!!

Amongst the new highlights are Philadelphia new-wave sensation Santogold whose debut record of 2008 took the world by storm with rave reviews and hype from Rolling Stone, Spin and the BBC. Santogold (aka Santi White) plays intelligent pop combined with beautiful dance beats and an 80's feel. Her angelic voice, sassy lyrics and quirky songs have already gained a huge following throughout the universe and has even secured her the support slot for Coldplay's upcoming North American tour!

From the infamous streets of Castle Donington, England, come four-piece electronic punks Late Of The Pier. Their debut album Fantasy Black Channel was released in August 2008 and has been heralded as one of the best British releases of the year. Another band not to be missed amongst the late hours of R & V if you are a fan of modern psychedelia and synthesizer infused rock'n'roll!

From Sao Paolo to Sydney, from Toronto to Tokyo, DJ Nu-Mark's carefully crafted, explosively energetic DJ sets never fail to get a party rocking. The man with the plan and most famous for being the beats behind Los Angeles based hip hop superstars Jurassic 5 is one of the world's best at his craft and knows how to make soul, funk, hip-hop, and samba effortlessly blend together and to get those people shaking asses on the floor.

With a number 1 Australian record under their belt Melbourne three-piece Cut Copy make rock music to dance to and dance music to rock to. Their most recent record In Ghost Colours is one of the finest alternative releases of 2008 and features the hit song So Haunted. With a sound similar to former R & V guests New Young Pony Club, and a live show second to none, Cut Copy will be one of the festival's most special guests this year.

Known for their raucous and unpredictable live shows UK indie rockers The Cribs will add a slice of British attitude and snarl to R & V. Featuring twins Gary and Ryan Jarman and their younger brother Ross Jarman, The Cribs have also recently been joined by ex-The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr who has been made a formal member of the group since 2008. Described by Q magazine as 'the biggest cult band in the UK' The Cribs were also recently personally invited to support the Sex Pistols at four of their five comeback concerts in Brixton in November. No wonder the hype machine has been rolling along about these guys!

Other acts announced will be local drum and bass sensations Antiform with MC Twin Cam, the soothing soul of Ladi 6 who is one New Zealand's best loved voices, British turntable battle hero DJ Switch, also from Britain the three piece breaks and jungle misfits Aquasky, and Orlando based electro hip hop reggae duo South Rakkas Crew. Plus many many more!
