In what is being billed as the The Greatest Hits Live, Simply Red led by charismatic front man Mick Hucknall, will revisit the highlights of their incredible 25 year, 10 album career in theatre and outdoor shows around the country this summer.

The tour will include ‘a day on the green’ at Villa Maria Estate, Auckland on Sunday February 15 2009. The concert will be the second ‘a day on the green’ event at this stunning winery, following the overwhelming success of the Joe Cocker concert in January this year.

Special kiwi guest support artists will be sultry songstress Hollie Smith and rising star Nathan King.

From their very first albums Picture Book (1985) and Men And Women (1987) to the juggernaut’s The New Flame (1989) and Stars (1991), which sat at the top of the UK charts for 19 weeks, to their last studio album Stay (2007), Simply Red’s classic hits have dominated Australasian charts, racking up more than one million album sales.

The Greatest Hits tour is set to thrill fans with a set list showcasing their amazing career including Money’s Too Tight To Mention, Holding Back The Years, The Right Thing, Stars, Fairground, If You Don’t Know Me By Now, Something Got Me Started, A New Flame and Sunrise.

The tour will celebrate the release of the band’s eagerly-anticipated 2CD Greatest Hits album and Greatest Hits DVD out early 2009 in NZ.

With Hucknall’s gorgeous vocals and irresistible stage charisma, Simply Red’s show-stopping concerts are part of the reason for the band’s longevity and enduring popularity.

Critically feted and publicly adored, New Zealand’s soul singer Hollie Smith and her 6 piece band are to support Simply Red in Auckland. Her voice – deeply penetrating and achingly powerful – has that unique ability to draw in the surrounding air and replace it with something much more sensual, and those exquisite pipes have been compared to some of the best-loved vocal chords in music history. Smith and her Double Platinum selling debut album “Long Player” was awarded no less than 4 awards at the Vodafone NZ Awards 2007 including Top Female Vocalist, Best Aotearoa Roots Album, Breakthrough Artist and Producer awards.

Only five years after strumming his first chord, Nathan found his songs and exceptional voice at the heart of multi-platinum, award-winning success as his band Zed saw their debut album shoot to number one. Australian rock legend JIMMY BARNES will headline the next ‘a day on the green’ concert series in March 2009 at The Mudhouse Winery + Café in Waipara, Alana Estate Winery in Martinborough and Villa Maria Estate Winery in Auckland.

This mercurial performer is undoubtedly one of the most popular and best-loved singers, and over the past year he’s been delivering killer ‘a day on the green’ performances around Australia.

NZ crowd favourite’s The Feelers are also on this bill, ensuring another sensational array of music!

Jimmy has recently completed a six week tour of Europe including shows in England, Germany and France to support the release of his current album ‘Out In The Blue’ and is in red hot form. His set celebrates his 30-year career at the apex of Australian rock & roll, and includes songs from ‘Out In the Blue’, the album written whilst he was recuperating from open heart surgery early in 2007.

The Sydney concert from the Australian ‘Out In The Blue’ tour is soon to be released on DVD, Jimmy’s ICON book has been so successful it is now in its third re-print and he is also continuing his work as a host with MAX TV. Early next year, Jimmy will take time off from touring to begin writing for his next studio album.

But it is on stage that Jimmy shines, and his enduring popularity is a testimony to his charismatic performances and amazing live shows. New Zealand - get ready to rock!

Nationally ‘a day on the green’ has continued its amazing growth in NZ, and is fast becoming one of NZ’s leading outdoor concert events. Coming into our 2nd year, we’ve only just begun to provide stellar winery locations for local and international artists to entertain us in.
