JACKSON BROWNE / TONI CHILDS LIVE
Wednesday February 25th 2009 at the Civic Theatre, Auckland

JACKSON BROWNE has been described as the ultimate LA singer-songwriter.
Since his acclaimed 1972 self-titled debut album, JACKSON BROWNE has defined a genre of song-writing and performing that is charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He’s been recognised with inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2004) and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame (2007), with recent humanitarian honours including the John Steinbeck Award and the Chapin-World Hunger Year Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award.
Jackson Browne’s songs have been performed by Joan Baez, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, and The Bryds. Nico used three of his songs for her solo album Chelsea Girl.

This September, Jackson releases his 13th studio album Time The Conqueror - produced by Jackson and Paul Dieter and released on Inside Recordings, the artist’s own independent label (distributed in NZ by Shock Records) and this month he embarks on a world tour which includes New Zealand and Australia!

Accompanying Jackson on the road is his band of fifteen years: Kevin McCormick (bass), Mark Goldenberg (guitars), Mauricio Lewak (drums) and Jeff Young (keyboards, backing vocals), plus vocalists Chavonne Morris and Alethea Mills.

With a brand new album to showcase (his first set of new material in six years), and classic songs like Running On Empty, The Pretender, Late For The Sky, Rock Me On The Water, Doctor My Eyes and Take It Easy to draw from, Jackson is set to reaffirm why he is one of music’s most influential and enduring artists.

Time The Conqueror features ten diverse original songs and are characteristic of Browne’s ability to address personal, inner-directed reflection and matters of social and political import with equal passion and intelligence.

Jackson has always charted his own direction with poise and confidence, and he is quite simply an artist not to be missed.

Best known for hits Don't Walk Away, Many Rivers To Cross and Stop Your Fussin’, singer-songwriter TONI CHILDS became popular in the late eighties, with her debut album Union. After a string of successes, Toni succumbed to a rare illness (Graves disease) and has spent most of the past decade recovering. She has emerged from a much too long musical exile to deliver a crucial, heartfelt message for these trying times with her new album Keep The Faith. It showcases her trademark husky vocals and marks a long-awaited creative resurgence with producers David Tickle and David Ricketts - the credited producers on the 1996 compilation The Very Best Of Toni Childs, which was her third platinum selling Top 10 album in New Zealand and features her riveting cover of Jimmy Cliff’s Many Rivers To Cross.

Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne continues his ‘Time the Conqueror’ World Tour with an eagerly-awaited string of dates in Australia, before heading to New Zealand next week for one show only at the Civic Theatre on Wednesday 25 February.

An itinerary in the U.K. and Europe follows, commencing in Ireland on March 21 with dates in England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Spain and Italy currently booked through May 21.

Browne’s world tour launched with a U.S. leg in September 2008 coinciding with the release of ‘Time the Conqueror’, produced by Browne and Paul Dieter, his first studio set since 2002.

The tour opened in Washington, with the Washington Post’s review noting:
“The new material demonstrated that Browne, just a few weeks shy of 60, still has a terrific touch. That was particularly true on the contemplative, vividly drawn title track of ‘Time the Conqueror,’ the soaring if wistful ‘Giving That Heaven Away’ and the echoing, atmospheric ‘Live Nude Cabaret’. When it was done – after a reggaefied encore version of ‘I Am a Patriot’ – Browne thanked the audience for having indulged him. He needn't have: the pleasure was ours.”

Accompanying Browne on the road is his band of fifteen years: Kevin McCormick (bass), Mark Goldenberg (guitars), Mauricio Lewak (drums) and Jeff Young (keyboards, backing vocals), accompanied by new members backing vocalists Chavonne Morris and Alethea Mills.

In addition to the new material from ’Time the Conqueror’, the tour spotlights selections from throughout Browne’s entire career. It will be his first tour of Australia with his band in five years.

‘Time The Conqueror’ continues to be lauded as amongst Browne’s best work:

“The album is the music of an angry man but the result is honest, raw, soulful music with exquisite vocals Browne hasn’t displayed in 20 years.” (Melbourne Sunday Herald Sun)

“The years of singing and touring and making political noise has taken no toll on his vocal chords. Jackson Browne sounds just as he did when he recorded “Take It Easy” all those years ago… Browne is still singing about what matters and the spirit of his generation lives in his music and his thoughts. We need more of that.” (fasterlouder.com)

“The hardest times inspire the greatest art. Mr Bush has even worn down the seemingly indomitable Jackson Browne, but the consequence is some of Browne’s most inspired work.” (Rhythms magazine)

Since his acclaimed 1972 self-titled debut album, Jackson Browne has defined a genre of song-writing and performing that is charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He’s been recognized with inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2004) and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame (2007), with recent humanitarian honours including the John Steinbeck Award and the Chapin-World Hunger Year Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award.

In January 2009, Browne performed at the Health for All Blue Diamond Ball—held at the Smithsonian Institution’s Natural History Museum—in celebration of President Obama’s inauguration.

The Australasian tour offers fans the chance to experience the more intimate environment of theatre shows.
