Partying to Drama Queens…Autozamm
Posted: Wed Nov 5, 2008 6:37 am
So through the wonderful world of Myspace I managed to get some free tickets to Autozamm's album release party at the Power Station. It was choice. See...

By now you would have heard NZ rock group Autozamm’s latest single Disco along with another chart-topper of theirs, Killer Shoes. I like the taste of both making it impossible for me to pass up their album release party at the Power Station on Friday night. This place has played host to many big shows in the past which made this event all the more exciting. A nice selection of lads in plaid and gals in heels ready for some rock n’ roll action lined the entrance making this feast simply delectable!

Heading inside, we were just in time for an unexpected treat - comedian Dai Henwood presenting the opening act for crowd. Filling the room with excitement and anticipation he introduced Mr Wayne Anderson which quickly deflated the all eager on-lookers. The old croon busted out songs like that old sing-a-long, Why Oh Why Delilah? making it feel more like an old persons karaoke bar than a happening hot spot. After about five painful songs, he finished up with a big fat kiss for the only lady up the front dancing her socks off - here’s hoping this was his wife…Hmmm…

Queen was the soundtrack of choice for the evening which played while the members of Autozamm chatted to friends and made their way through the bunches of people still arriving. It wasn’t too long before the lights in the house were switched off and we were being treated to a fluro pink and blue light show on the floor along with my favourite, dry ice! There was a sound not unlike something you’d hear in a Star Wars film before the PVC curtain was dragged open. Quicker than two shakes of a lambs tail the dance floor was filled and ready to rock.

One by one taking to the stage the lads broke into their first song of the evening Disco. This made the lady next to me so ecstatic that she decided it would be a good idea to throw her bottle of water around the crowd. If you ask me, the old girl really should have been drinking it to dilute the six Bourbons she’d most likely downed before the show! Even though she was pretty entertaining, watching lead singer Nick Major was by far the hi-light of my night. He naturally prances around the stage with all the confidence of an international rock star while singing each song to his absolute best. If you’ve seen their videos you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

Delicious delight of the evening without a doubt was, Ways to Run. Nick Major and guitarist Mike Carpinter wooed the crowd with smooth and precise vocals that could easily make a grown man cry. Luckily for all the teary eyed plaid wearing lads in the crowd, we were surprised by sparkly party streamers and stars that were shot onto the dance floor. This suited the last quarter of their set perfectly, when Nick Major came onto the stage dressed in a very pretty velvet corset and mesh top. Performing Killer Shoes along with a couple of others off their new album, Drama Queen, these guys put on a very memorable performance. Here’s hoping their new album is as successful as their party so we can see more of the kiwi boys in the future!
