Fans of British heavy metal group Iron Maiden will be shouting "up the Irons" today with the announcement that the group will perform two New Zealand concerts in February in Christchurch and Auckland.
It's the first visit down under since 1992 for the group who formed in 1975, and celebrates the release of their new album Somewhere Back In Time, the Best of 1980-1989.
The tour will focus on the 1980s in both choice of songs and stage set. It will include elements of their Somewhere In Time tour of the mid '80s, including the cyborg Eddie, but the set-list in New Zealand will cover classic songs featured from the group's first four albums.
An online petition this year by New Zealand Iron Maiden fans tallied more than 4500 calling for their favourite "metalhead" group to visit.
Band founder Steve Harris said he was pleased to get to New Zealand after the group was disappointed not to tour here this year because they could not make the schedule work. "This tour is likely to be the last time we play many of these songs live so we really will be giving it everything we have got.".
The group's customised Boeing 757, nicknamed Ed Force One by fans, and flown by Dickinson, will land in New Zealand for shows at Mount Smart Stadium, Auckland, on February 20 and at AMI Stadium, Christchurch, on February 21 fully loaded with the band, crew and 12 tons of stage set and equipment.
Dickinson will clock up 80,000km worldwide for concerts in 19 cities in 11 countries, playing to two million fans.
Tickets to both shows go on sale on November 28.

this is actually so messed up coz i was watching "death on the road" last night with my bro and we were discussing how awsome it would be if maiden came here. then just now as i was reading the article the maiden song "drifters" came on shuffle on itunes. creepy shiz. seriously so motherf'n over the moon bout this.

2009 will be the year of the maiden!!!!

We need to make sure to tell everyone to buy tickets ASAP once on sale... Need to show them we want these shows. These are two big ass stadiums, if they dont at least half fill them I wonder if we wont loose the dates to Melbourne and Sydney?! Might just paranoid?! But get tix early

for sure bro. i'm making sure that everyone i know thats goin to this is buying their tix first day. i am also very paranoid bout them pulling out. would be even worse than when preist pulled out.

wonder who will open. i don't think that maiden carrys a support band around on the plane with them and thats one hell of a scedual to keep up with. i am thinking tix will be bout 150.

hey i've got a question: this is their 'SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME WORLD TOUR' (the best of 1980-1989) right?? so does this mean that they are only gonna be playing stuff from their 80's catalogue?? cause there are many great songs from the 90's that i would really want to hear. examples include:
holy smoke
hookes in you
the assassin
bring your daughter to the slaughter
fear of the dark
the wicker man
blood brother
brave new world
no more lies
dance of death
paschendale
etc etc etc

i would hope that at least some of these make the set (particularly fear of the dark)

Apparently only FEAR OF THE DARK and BRING YOUR DAUGHTER... are part of this show. The rest is all songs from the releases up to "Seventh Son..." And indeed, "Powerslave" (or Live after Death) was their best show ever.

thats a bit of a shame cause i thought that "no prayer for the dying", "brave new world" and "dance of death" were really excellent albums. i spose that they will probably hit a tune off "a matter of life and death" aswell

btw i would love to hear heaps from "number of the beast" not just run to the hills but also children of the damned, the prisoner, 22 acacia avenue, and hallowed be the name. also heaps from their dianno erra!!! wrath child, prodigal son, killers, remember tomorow, running free, charlotte the harlot, iron maiden.

i know they can't fit it all in but one can always dream......

I absolutely hated No Prayer... a really low point for that lineup.

Best "recent" Maiden song for me is "Montsegeur". Absolutely stunning. Best since the song "Fear of the Dark", IMO.
