Hot line-up for Waitangi Day sizzler in Wellington Posted: Thu Dec 18, 2008 4:57 pm A stellar line-up is set to sizzle in the sun for the biggest party in Wellington for Waitangi Day, Radio Active 89FM's One Love 2009. A crowd of 15,000 is expected to flock to Wellington's Hataitai Velodrome on February 6 2009 to celebrate unity and our unique Aotearoan identity in what has become one of an iconic event on the Wellington entertainment calendar. A top-notch line-up has joined the party, with the announcement today that The Black Seeds, Unity Pacific, The Little Bushman and Electric Wire Hustle will headline One Love 2009, one of the biggest annual outdoor concerts in New Zealand. Added to the mix are the Roots and Culture DJs Topknot, Ras Twig, Misteek and Carlito from Radio Active 89FM. More announcements are expected in 2009. One Love 2009 event director Hadden Morrison said the line-up spans the core values of why One Love was started 11 years ago: unity, reflection, identity and a big day of fun in the sun. "This is an A-Class line-up that is one of the strongest we've ever had for the One Love festival," he said. "We really couldn't be happier that these bands, all first-choice, will be part of this unique celebration of New Zealand culture. "The Black Seeds are the epitome of One Love's sense of positivity and togetherness and the Little Bushman is a band that has risen from the ashes of Trinity Roots that played an integral part in New Zealand's roots scene for many years. "Anyone who is familiar with Unity Pacific will know Tigi Ness' strong association with some of the most important social movements in New Zealand in the 1970s – as well as being Che Fu's dad, and we thank him for that! – and Electric Wire Hustle are making a huge impression on New Zealand's funk scene and have recently signed to a Japanese music label." One Love has averaged more than 15,000 people over the past few years, packing the picturesque Hataitai Velodrome on the south side of Mt Victoria, with commanding views towards Wellington’s south coast. In addition, One Love features a bar, arts & crafts, fashion and food stalls, and amusements for the kids. Admission for this year's event is $10, representing one hell of a bang for your bucks, and in keeping with previous policies aimed at providing a friendly and family atmosphere, there will be no patches, no dogs, and no BYO. One Love 2009: Roots Rock Reggae Waitangi Day, 2009 @ Hataitai Velodrome, Wellington Entry $10 (under 15s free), with free Active Card included More information at www.radioactive.co.nz |
