Fiona Pears ‘Fire and Light’ New Zealand Tour 2009

Fiona Pears, New Zealand violinist and composer, passionate and animated with rare and natural charisma, returns from the UK to launch her fourth CD, ‘Fire and Light’. This CD features her fantastic Kiwi band plus the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Fiona will be embarking on a nationwide tour of New Zealand to promote the new CD. These concerts will feature music from ‘Fire and Light’ and will be a fiery melting pot of flavours: Latin, Jazz, Tango and Classical, as well as some hot traditional Gypsy favourites. Fiona is an electrifying and visual performer who thrills audiences wherever she plays. Her band is made up of some of the most talented musicians in New Zealand today; Greg Donaldson on Drums, Pete Fleming on Bass, Tyson Smith on Guitar and UK pianist and Musical Director, Ian Tilley.

As well as finishing the new CD, Fiona has spent the last year performing at concert halls around the UK and the US. This culminated in an appearance at the world famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz club in London,

Fiona has become well known in New Zealand following her appearances with Kiwi icons such as Dave Dobbyn and Hayley Westenra; most recently as part of the ‘In Tune with Nature’ Winery tour at the start of 2008.

I went to the same school as her... she's got "perfect pitch"... IE: she can tune an instrument without needing reference notes, and can identify notes instantly. Very rare. A desirable trait in a musician for sure!
