The Mint Chicks Posted: Tue Feb 17, 2009 5:44 pm As a futuristic band of troubadours that (according to Ruban Nielson) “travelled back in time to record”, it’s no surprise the Mint Chicks can’t stay in one place for too long. Or perhaps they’ve straddled the fibres of time and space to be both in new-home Portland, Oregon and on our antipodal shores at once? Either way, they’re back in town, with a brand new record Screens (out on 16th March) and a brand new single ‘I Can’t Stop Being Foolish’. The anticipation of Screens is rife both here and abroad, with ‘I Can’t Stop Being Foolish’ already at number 1 on 95bFM, and with the record listed in Cary Clarke’s “Most Anticipated Albums of 2009” in the Portland Mercury as “A vocoder-heavy pop record that sounds like it’s target audience are bubble-gum chewing, teenage robot punks with a soft spot for Queen and Brainiac”. This March, Wellington fans will get a chance to sample the Mint Chicks’ new wares, when they play San Francisco Bathhouse as a bri¬¬ef sojourn off the University Orientation circuit. Joining them for this one-night-only show will be F in Math – ex-Mint Chick Michael Logie’s electronic solo project, and Fighting the Shakes - an enthralling, entertaining, acerbic (yet charming!) Wellington 3-piece that walks the razor's edge between infectious pop music and a more inaccessible hardcore punk. |
