Bar Mode Closure

Bar Mode has closed effective immediately. Reports are of the windows being blacked out and trespass notices up for owner Tane.

It has also been reported that all gear is being liquidated.

All gigs have been cancelled effective immediately, we'll keep you up to date if any gigs are rescheduled to other venues.

What the ****...??
Would be nice if someone contacted bands and advised them of such things. We're meant to play down there next Saturday.

That sucks man. Seems the place has been a bit mickey mouse this year with a number of advertised gigs not taking place. I was keen to go to a show about a month ago, I rang about tickets and the phone had been disconnected! Emailed and got no reply. On the day of the gig it was still listed on their Myspace page, I noticed they were “online” at the time so sent a message and was told that they found out the show was canceled 4-5 days earlier – but it was still listed for that evening! Needless to say I would've been royally pissed off if I'd driven 50k for nothing.

I agree, this totally sucks - Palmerston North doesn't really have much else on offer at the moment and it surprises me that there isn't a decent live music venue here (or one that can last more than a few months), given that it's a student city and all.

There is some good news for music in Palmy though - the Stomach will be reopening in the next couple of weeks

Bar Mode has not closed.

I have just spoken to Tane (the manager), and he has confirmed that while it was closed for a few days it has now reopened and all gigs that were previously booked there will still be going ahead as planned.

The phone should be back on this afternoon.

The Bar Mode ph is still disconnected and there's no sign anywhere of a new ph # or email address... perhaps Bar Mode is still having issues?

I honestly don't know what's going on here - the phone is still disconnected and there's nothing anywhere to indicate there's a new phone # or email address... something tells me there are still issues to be sorted.

Just spotted this on their Bebo page:

Bar Mode says:
"Open daily from 4pm - RE-OPENING PARTY on Sunday 22 March" (4 hours ago)"

Hopefully this is a good sign

A walk to Bar Mode revealed the following...

There is a grand opening party on the 22nd. There are also events happening prior to this, but no live music gigs are listed on the board. The posters are also out of date.

There is a for lease sign on the wall.

And there's nothing anywhere with regards to a new phone number or email address.
