The Legal Tender Tour Posted: Thu Jul 9, 2009 3:32 pm Eighteen years is a long time to be causing mayhem. So, what better way for The Rock to celebrate their 18th birthday than to get Australasia's four hardest rockin bands: Shihad, The Living End, Airbourne and Luger Boa together to help them cut loose on the LEGAL TENDER tour? The Rock Programme Director Brad King says with such a massive line-up, things are likely to get out of hand. "We can't think of a better way to celebrate our 18th birthday than cutting loose with four of the greatest rock acts in Australasia," he says. "Very rarely do you get to see the likes of Shihad, The Living End, Airbourne and Luger Boa on one very large, very loud bill, but with The Rock's Legal Tender Tour, that's exactly what's about to go down. It's huge!" From October 1 to October 11, join the crowd for two of New Zealand's finest and two of Australia's playing in seven sonic destruction test matches across the country. F**k the Bledisloe - this is rock 'n' roll! The Rock radio station was established in Hamilton in 1991 by Nevada Enterprises. In 1999 The Rock relocates to Auckland, gets stuck in traffic, but still manages to broadcast in 20 markets from Northland to Southland. 2007 sees The Rock's ratings soar and the station beats chatterbox Newstalk ZB to become the Number 1 Radio station in New Zealand. Fast forward to 2009 and The Rock is now the Number 1 Music Station nationwide and Morning Rumble the Number 1 Music Breakfast Show nationwide. This tour is about The Rock's coming-of-age, hence Legal Tender. Shihad need no introduction. But in case you have been living under a rock, here you go: * Seven legendary albums * Three number one albums * Three top 10 singles * They hold the record for the most appearances on the NZ Singles Chart by a local act. 24 in total (19 as Shihad, five as Pacifier). Arguably NZ's most enduring rock band; these Wellingtonian boys have received no less than 10 Tui Awards in the prestigious New Zealand Music Awards, including two for International Achievement - making their mark in overseas territories. Front man Jon Toogood has gladly accepted the birthday invitation and is eager to help the Rock celebrate such a great milestone by tearing up his home. Again! "For 18 years The Rock has paved the way for New Zealand rock music on the airwaves and that is something worthy of a fittingly raucous celebration," he says. "It's not as if we ever need a reason to come back to New Zealand, we love playing live to massive crowds through big f**king PA's so it should be awesome". Joining Shihad on the bill are Australia's International Rockers, The Living End and Airbourne. Rounding out the line-up is New Zealand's Luger Boa whose debut album, Mutate or Die has been described as the most twisted and contagious record of the year. Luger Boa recently opened for none other than the Kings of Leon and ringmaster Jimmy Xmas knows exactly how to get a party started. Expect Luger Boa to set the tone for a massive night of high class rock. The Rock's Legal Tender Tour kicks off at Dunedin's Edgar Centre on October 1, before heading to Christchurch, Napier, Auckland, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Wellington. All shows are licensed and all-ages. Tickets for all seven shows go on sale on July 13.
