Glen Campbell Posted: Mon Sep 14, 2009 6:50 pm THE RHINESTONE COWBOY IS BACK! GLEN CAMPBELL ANNOUNCES NOVEMBER TOUR Glen Campbell, whose graceful vocal and guitar skills earned him a spot in the Country Music Hall of Fame, returns to New Zealand in November for three concerts in Auckland, Wellington and Rotorua, accompanied by his vocalist daughter Debby and band. With five Grammy Awards on his mantle and sales of more than 45 million recordings, Glen is regarded just as highly by industry peers as by a global audience. The most played song of the millennium, Wichita Lineman, plus Gentle On My Mind and By The Time I Get To Phoenix, are all enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame, while his million-selling Rhinestone Cowboy won Song of the Year honors from the Academy of Country Music. His great melodies are further underscored by such indelible hits as Galveston, Southern Nights, Country Boy (You've Got Your Feet In L.A.), Dreams Of The Everyday Housewife, Still Within The Sound Of My Voice and others. Glen's own music is just part of the story. As a Los Angeles Wrecking Crew session guitarist, he contributed to hits by such acts as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Merle Haggard, Nat King Cole, Ricky Nelson, Jan & Dean, The Righteous Brothers and The Beach Boys. In fact, he was such a close friend of The Beach Boys that when Brian Wilson famously chose to stop touring, Glen served as his replacement on the road. In short order, Glen became one of the most visible country stars around the world. He hosted his own network television show, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, which attracted weekly global audiences of fifty million and ran for three years. In addition, he frequently left the U.S. for successful tours in Europe and Australia. In fact, Keith Urban counts a Glen Campbell concert from his youth among the shows that inspired his current rise to international prominence. Glen was inducted into the 2005 Country Music Hall of Fame and has received Country Music Association Entertainer & Male Vocalist of the Year awards, multiple Academy of Country Music trophies (including the prestigious Pioneer Award) and a Gospel Music Association Dove Award. He starred alongside John Wayne in the classic film True Grit, featured on best-seller lists with Rhinestone Cowboy: An Autobiography and was named one of CMT's 40 Greatest Men in Country Music History. In 2002, Glen was introduced to a younger generation through the comedic dance-floor rendition of Rhinestone Cowboy (Giddy Up Giddy Up), featuring Manchester's Rikki & Daz. In 2008 & 2009, he demonstrated his unwavering relevance with Meet Glen Campbell, critically acclaimed U2, Tom Petty, Travis and John Lennon re-imaginings and released his own Greatest Hits album. Glen's signature tunes are classic, often melding timeless lyrics with far-ranging melodies that only the most flexible singers can attempt. Glen delivers these hits as effortlessly as when he first recorded them and he remains one of the elite guitarists of his genre. On this tour, Glen is accompanied by feature vocalist of twenty years, daughter Debby and his band performing a magical mix of pure country, contemporary classics and romantic pop melodies.
