Monsterr Records is pleased to announce the release of Monsterr 002:
Cherry/Spitfyre: ‘Double B side’

FREE copies of this CD (while stocks last) will be given away at a release party featuring Cherry and Spitfyre plus support from the mighty Raskolnikovs, chaos theorists, The Shambolics and young guns The Velvetones, as well as DJ Acid Queen on the 20th of August at The Cross, from 9pm.

Cherry are probably New Zealand’s only garage bubblegum band who as an economical two piece make more of a racket than most bands. Featuring the low fi growl of their ‘treated’ bass guitar (sounds more like a lead guitar with heavier strings and less of them) contrasting with deceptively sweet tunes, the boys are also blessed with the highest voices in rock n roll.

Spitfyre are quite simply, the dirtiest, skuzziest, coolest and most primitive rock n roll yet heard in Wellington. Their ethos is simple: band members do not play the instrument they are most familiar with. The result is pure punk glory.

This second release follows the sold out success of the first Monsterr Release, ‘Trashed!’ and Chief Monsterr Waren Thomas says he is in awe and horror of the bands playing this second release party. True to the Monsterr ethos he claims the release features some of the ugliest and most grotesque combos available in Wellington, New Zealand, or indeed the World.
“Good god what kind of animal makes noises like that?” he said when attempting to describe the bands. He explained that while it wasn’t easy to lure the bands out of that cage, they are now safely tethered and lying in wait for the thrill seekers who can expect more Monsterr madness at The Cross.

While the event will not be of the magnitude of the 13 band spectacular that was ‘Trashed!’, Waren Thomas expects it to be even more vile, but denies rumours that the first 50 through the door will be plied with alcohol. He would not comment on claims that the poor unfortunate most able to effectively howl like a Monsterr will be given more alcohol than they can drink

at one sitting and a bunch of nasty old horror comics he found in the corner.

Show starts 9pm sharp.

R18.
Aaoooowwwwwhhhgggghhhh!!!
