The Mint Chicks cross Kirk’s equator bound for Texas.
Posted: Tue Mar 22, 2005 6:31 pm
The last week has seen The Mint Chicks visit three countries, travel twenty thousand kilometres and play seven shows in Hamilton, Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Los Angeles*, Hollywood, and Austin, Texas.

Austin of course, is home to the South By South West Festival, and The Mint Chicks show at the NZ party on Wednesday night (Austin time) saw a scorching Mint Chicks set (remembering this is day eight of a tour and the boys have passed through five time zones and five airports and played with two of the wildest Japanese bands around - The King Brothers and Guitar Wolf, so playing after The Have and before Pluto at the kiwi soiree is nothing!!!)...Kody climbed to the top of the party tent and swung upside down mid set - falling to the ground and ripping up the floor. He then proceeded to baptise anyone who had dared enter the tent with his water bottle.

The band has one more show in Austin before they fly to New York for a further four US shows.

The Mint Chicks would now like to confirm the following NZ dates around the release of their debut album, F**k The Golden Youth. Tickets from usual places.

APRIL
Fri 1st – Auckland, Devonport, Masonic
Sat 2nd – Hamilton, Ward Lane
Fri 8th - Christchurch , Jet Set Lounge
Sat 9th – Dunedin, Refuel
Mon 11th – Queenstown, The Dux
Thu 14th – Nelson, Phat Club
Fri 15th – Wellington, Indigo
Sat 16th - Palmerston North, The Stomach [ All Ages ]
Fri 22th - Mt Maunganui , Brewers Bar
Sat 23rd – Gisborne, Scottys
Fri 29th – Auckland, Kings Arms
Sat 30th – Auckland, Grey Lynn Library Hall [ All Ages ]

*While in LA the Mint Chicks recharged their batteries on the palatial hillsides of Studio City (just two houses down from William Shatner's). Kody went for a walk and met a stray coyote who he named Raymond; Ruban slept (he’s like that), Paul updated The Mint Chicks diary and Michael wandered off bumping into Mr Shatner’s gardener Pepe whose English was almost non existent, pushing his bicycle up the hill - seems Pepe was a little anxious as he was late for work clutching a letter from his sick wife explaining his tardiness. (Mr Shatner, apparently, is a stickler for punctuality.) The ever good natured Michael went with Pepe, introduced himself to Mr Shatner and calmed down his newfound friend. Cookies made by the third Mrs Shatner were gladfully accepted, William confessing he had never been to New Zealand but always wanted to go - and especially even more so after meeting the charming bass player from the Hibiscus Coast. Michael revealed his long time admiration for Leonard Nimoy and was promptly ejected from the property by Bill and Pepe.

F**K THE GOLDEN YOUTH is released by Flying Nun on April 4th, 2005.
