Wellington's newest festival, Downtown Shakedown, is set to be headlined by Kiwi supergroup L.A.B.

L.A.B, known for hit songs such as In The Air, Ain’t No Use and Controller, will be sharing the bill alongside five of the country’s biggest acts on December 5th at Wellington’s Waitangi Park.

Joining L.A.B will be Sunshine Sound System. Aptly named DJ Downtown Brown will be providing their trademark sound-system beats between acts and KPZ the renowned MC will keep the festival flowing all day and into the night.

Alt-pop duo Broods and funk-soul, electronic act, Sola Rosa have also been added to the first ever line-up.

Broods have just completed their US tour, and had their tour of Europe canned due to the global pandemic. They have been putting their forced hiatus to good use, recharging and writing new music which they are excited to be sharing at Downtown Shakedown.

Sola Rosa are releasing their long awaited new album, Chasing the Sun this spring. Five years in the making the new offering has been described as a "journey through the universe of soul, funk and everywhere in between."

The final two acts on an already massive bill are local legends Fat Freddy’s Drop and super-lonely superstar BENEE.

BENEE’s popularity has catapulted the 20-year-old into super stardom, reaching over 23 million monthly listeners on Spotify and receiving Platinum Records in the US and numerous countries around the globe.

Like BENEE and Broods, Fat Freddy’s Drop’s European tour plans were scuttled by the pandemic. They had to wait patiently for their gear to arrive back from Europe and have been using the quiet time since to make new music which they are very much looking forward to sharing with their hometown fans.

Downtown Shakedown is an R18 event which will be 100% weather protected. A giant marquee with a 10,000-person capacity will be constructed to create an unmissable party atmosphere.
