One of Australia’s biggest live acts has just announced July tour dates following sold out New Zealand shows earlier this year.

John Butler Trio, who were last here in January to perform at the Big Day Out, the Kaikoura Roots Festival and other shows, have built a strong New Zealand following in the wake of the success of Ben Harper with their bluesy, folk-rock style, heavy with their trade mark slide guitar sound. The trio will perform three New Zealand dates early July, including their own Christchurch and Wellington shows, and will play in Auckland as part of a Greenpeace concert to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior in 1985.

John Butler Trio’s most recent album, Sunrise Over Sea, went to Number One on the Australian charts and has exceeded 20,000 sales here. In October 2004 they took out three categories in Australia’s prestigious ARIA Awards, including the coveted Best Male Artist award for John Butler.

Front man John Butler is renowned for his using his music for social good, which is evident in his socially conscious lyrics, the establishment in Australia of the JB Seed Arts Grant Fund John, and in being a driving force behind the huge ‘Wave Aid’ concert in January to raise money for victims of the tsunami disaster, which raised more than two million dollars.

John Butler Trio will arrive here fresh from their own sell out shows and touring the festival circuit in the UK, Europe and the US, including a main stage performance at Glastonbury Festival.

John Butler trio will be supported in Christchurch and Wellington by Ladi 6.
