Bruce Mason Centre 10th Anniversary Open Day!


On Sunday 6 August the Bruce Mason Centre is celebrating 10 years in business! Since being officially opened in August 1996, the Centre has hosted approximately 1498 auditorium events, 6375 conferences and meetings and 95 art exhibitions.

To celebrate we’re holding an ‘Open Day’ on Sunday 6 August, from 11am to 3pm. Come along and explore the venue from top to bottom. Each area of the Centre will be set up to show what it can do on any given day. The Auditorium will host a variety of free performances, and for those who have always wondered what it’s like to be part of a stage production, there will be special ‘Backstage Tours’ taking you behind the doors of the theatre that are usually closed to the public. See where the stars apply their makeup and where they relax before the performance, stand side of stage and see the technical crew at work, view the hydraulic system that allows the theatre to turn into a flat floor space, maybe even meet the Bruce Mason Centre’s resident ghost!

The foyers will host more free activities, including a clown and face painting for the kids.

Designed and built on a budget two thirds the cost per seat of a normal theatre of its size at the time, the Bruce Mason Centre was an amazing achievement, boasting a proscenium arch, tiered theatre seating for 953, a huge stage, fantastic natural acoustics, and the unique ability to turn the entire Auditorium into a flat-floor space.

So come along and help us celebrate 10 years in business! There will be something of interest for everyone. We look forward to seeing you there!
