Auckland's Miriam Clancy to join Ron Sexsmith Posted: Wed Aug 23, 2006 3:09 pm RON SEXSMITH Plus Auckland’s Miriam Clancy Just confirmed by Ron Sexsmith’s management to play alongside the revered songwriter is Auckland’s (& Foxton’s) Miriam Clancy. The Transmission Room, Auckland. Sunday Sept 24th. Tickets on-sale now from Ticketek & Real Groovy. $57 Seated Tables and $47 Standing. Having just released her debut album ‘Lucky One’, Miriam may seem new to many, but in actuality she is continuing her musical journey that began as a little girl writing her first song at the age of six. Miriam has developed her craft the old fashioned way – through hard work, on the road, playing, playing and more playing. From Foxton to Malaysia to Los Angeles, Miriam has played deserted backwater pubs to packed city venues and large stadiums. Miriam’s apprenticeship has included a variety of roles including fronting local bands, acting musical director and choreographer for corporate shows, session studio recording and assisting sound engineer for prominent recording studios. In 2001 Miriam felt ready to step out from behind the safety net of ‘being in the trade’ for a more personal approach, by focusing solely on writing and performing her own music. From a base of music theory, practice and a deep well of personal experience, she has created a wealth of songs which carry a simple beauty that moves from haunting to powerful. Her voice captures a rare depth of soul and honesty. It has been a long journey, but Miriam Clancy has arrived. “it's hard not to hear ( ‘Dry Your Eye’s and ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’) as among the best songs Chrissie Hynde never wrote.” – Russell Baillie, NZ Herald “beautifully beguiling, bare to the bones…” – 5 star album review Sunday Star Times “If intelligent singer-songwriters and Americana alt.country artists just off the edge of the mainstream appeal to you, then you’ll need no further invitation to listen up to Miriam Clancy. She has stories to tell and a passionate voice full of emotional honesty.” – Graham Reid "Clancy's voice is both delicate and gutsy, commanding and yet melodically subtle" - AT, Cheese On Toast "million dollar songs" - Trevor Reekie, Radio NZ “that she's just as impressive brooding elegantly through another break-up or shouting the house down. If she's a late bloomer by female singer-songwriter standards, waiting until she really had something to say has worked out for the best.” – Russell Baillie, NZ Herald www.miriamclancy.co.nz |
