Pearl to support Sir Elton John Posted: Mon Nov 20, 2006 9:43 am Wellington duo PEARL have turned heads within the New Zealand music industry by landing the hottest live performance opportunity of 2006 – support for Elton John at his only NZ concert – the largest of his Australasian Tour. With their band in tow, Lisa Nimmo and Shelley Hirini will step onstage at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium on December 6th and get the crowd rocking with songs from their recently released debut album ‘No Ordinary Day’. “It’s not every day you get to play alongside rock royalty!“ laughs Hirini. ”It really is an honour, and a fantastic opportunity for us.” “We’ve been totally blown away by the promotional support Capital C [the promoter] has given us. Having the opportunity to play the songs off our album to 40,000 people is such a boost right now,“ says Nimmo. So how does an act without a major record label land a gig like opening for Elton John? Phil Sprey from Capital C: Concerts – the promoter bringing Elton John to New Zealand, contacted the band after attending their album launch gig in September. "It's important to our company that we support kiwi talent and as we are Wellington based, what is better than tapping into the creative talent that is around us?" says Sprey. "Pearl are a terrific live act, they have paid their dues and more with their dedication to their music and they've recently launched a superb album,” he adds. “We know their music will compliment Elton John's and set the audience up for a totally Wellington experience." Pearl’s three singles from ‘No Ordinary Day’ released to date have all featured on NZ On Air Kiwi Hit Discs. They have previously opened for Jimmy Barnes, Fur Patrol and McLeod’s Daughters star Lisa Chappell. |
