Exciting final line-up for Rhythm & Vines Posted: Fri Nov 24, 2006 6:04 pm IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER FROM RHYTHM & VINES Just when you thought the news couldn’t get any better …. it did. Tonight (Thursday) Rhythm & Vines organizers announced the last of their hot line up for the 2006-2007 festival and it includes Mylo DJ, Connan and the Mockasins, Rhombus, Blackbird, State of Mind, Sunshine Soundsystem and Skankamelia. The announcement comes right on the heels of the news that Crazy P (Live) is also gracing the stage at R&V in Gisborne this year, along with Shapeshifter, Spektrum and Kora. “This is our best lineup yet to entertain the 15,000 festival-goers who will be seeing the New Year in at the hottest venue in the Southern Hemisphere,” said founder and music director Hamish Pinkham. The Mylo performance will be the only one in New Zealand. Mylo has been hailed the saviour of dance music and draws from his childhood on the isle of Sky, a little low life in London and Paris, and academia in Oxford and Los Angeles to create rich, varied and well-balanced sounds. He is just as happy warming souls as he is rocking party-goers on the dance floor. With a sound characterised by sophisticated electro stabs, classy breaks and fat bottomed bass lines it is remarkable to learn that most of Mylo's production tools are computer internal, yet his music sounds as if he has an army of engineers assisting him. Mylo is considered one of the heavyweight DJs of the world, and his latest remixes include the Killers and Scissor Sisters. His sets have stretched afar including playing Los Angeles' Coachella Festival in 2006 right after Madonna. Back from the United Kingdom just for the party are Connan and the Mockasins – a band described as having passion and honesty in spades. And who can forget Rhombus – such a talented band of players representing a constantly evolving tour de force with guest artists who bring their own flavours to the mix. Blackbird is New Zealand’s newest Kiwiana folk band, who play a hybrid of acoustic swing and soul with a splash of reggae. And there are more…… but too many to list. General tickets are a sell-out but there is still a handful of special reserve available. This summer will bring with it the biggest R&V to date – something not to be missed by anyone. |
