Cornerstone Roots Posted: Wed Dec 20, 2006 7:01 pm Summer is set to be a busy period for Cornerstone Roots but the New Zealand crowd favourite roots reggae band are eager to embark and impress on their 10-stop national tour starting on Boxing Day. The band plays Papamoa, Riverhead, Waiheke Island, Coromandel, Raglan, Christchurch, Onekaka, Westport, Nelson and at the Parihaka Peace Festival. Along with taking the five-piece band on the road, frontman Brian Ruawai and partner and bassist Naomi Tuao are the organisers of the highly successful Soundsplash Eco Reggae Festival held annually above the stunning west coach beaches of Raglan that Cornerstone Roots call home. Next year's festival is held at the later date of Febuary 23-24 after previous have run over the busy Waitangi weekend. Soundsplash '07 features Jamaican/British act Dub Syndicate, Guyanan doctor of dub the Mad Professor, the Black Seeds, Shapeshifter, Katchafire and much much more Juggling a band, a king size festival and running their own two children household would already be enough for most armies but not so Brian and Naomi and the Cornerstone crew. After the tour and between the organisation of Soundsplash the band will record the hotly anticipated follow-up album to the acclaimed Soul Revolution. Brian had expected to be promoting the new album during the summer but an opportunistic thief at Melbourne International airport made off with his heavily laden laptop, containing much of the material that was set to be put on wax. The band were in transit during the Dub Conspiracy Australian tour in October when the theft took place. The laptop also contained irreplaceable images and organisational data from previous Soundsplash festivals. However, like memories, plenty of the new songs remain and Cornerstone Roots' 2006/07 summer tour will be a road test for the songs set to appear on the album. It will be recorded with producer Daniel Howard at Dudley Studios in Hamilton on January 11th, 12th and 13th. The core of Cornerstone Roots remains the same with Brian, Naomi, drummer Boyd 'Rikkihana' Turongo Dixon (drums) and Aaron Bush (percussion) still providing the sound that has been a concert and festival favourite throughout New Zealand and many parts of the world. Added to the equation recently is the former Waiheke Island-based Nicholas Stevens. Nicholas has taken over the keyboard and backing vocals role within the band. He also adds the horn section via the keys. TOUR DATES: December - 26 @ Papamoa Tavern, Papamoa 27 @ Riverhead Hotel, Riverhead 28 @ Harbourmasters Inn, Waiheke Island 29 @ Star & Garter, Coromandel 30 @ Town Hall, Raglan NEW YEAR'S EVE - @ The Dux with Salmonella Dub, Chch January - 2 @ Mussel Inn, Onekaka 5 @ Westport, Westport 6 @ Phat Club, Nelson 7 @ Parihaka Peace Festival, Parihaka Tickets are available at selected venues and outlets.
