The end of Daylight Savings just means getting to the bar earlier!

On Saturday 31 March the electrifying OdESSA will take the stage at Bodega at 10.30pm - sharp! – after The Dissentors open at 9.30pm. This will be the first hometown gig for OdESSA since their comprehensive national tour of 9 shows in 11 days - quite an introduction for new guitarist Dan Ryland who took over duties when Matt Armitage left to pursue his own projects.

It’s been awhile since OdESSA played at Bodega and with their new mixing desk, some other wizardry and guaranteed energetic performances from OdESSA and The Dissentors the night is set to rock.

Matt Pender, lead singer of OdESSA, has commented for ages about how ‘you can go see a show or a movie and know when it starts and plan your night – but it seems impossible to do that with bands since you never know when they’re going to play!’ Well, now you will! So, get along early to Bodega on Saturday 31 March and enjoy some great beverages, check out the The Dissentors from 9.30pm, and immerse yourself in the energetic grooves of OdESSA who will take the stage at 10.30pm sharp – and then indulge yourself in awesome selections of ace 80's music with DJ Poindexter (aka Simon Morse) while the bands catch up on more than a few drinks – don’t miss out!

At the end of last year Matt Armitage announced he was leaving OdESSA to pursue his own projects, and the band invited Dan Ryland to take over guitar duties. Matt had created a formidable legacy in his time with OdESSA. Dan joined the band just as they were preparing to record their second album with producer David Long (formerly of the Mutton Birds and now Plan 9), and engineer Mike Gibson at Trident Sound Studios.

The Band released of ‘Motel Machine’, the first single from the forthcoming album to be released later in the year, which is also available online at odessamusic.net. The band also received a ‘New Recording’ grant from New Zealand On Air to record their song ‘Turn Out The City Lights’.

Not long after recording the album OdESSA embarked on a nation-wide tour of 9 shows in just 11 days with performances including shows at University Orientations and their renowned performance at the Cuba Carnival. The band figured that if they were still talking after that they could probably survive anything!

Pender, lead singer of OdESSA says that “Dan has really worked to make the music his own, and the band is responding brilliantly to new ideas and direction. We didn’t know what to expect when Dan joined, but now the future for OdESSA is incredibly exciting. There hasn’t been a better time to be in music in this country and on tour we had so much fun live on stage, it was amazing - so much energy from everyone. We just can’t wait to play again!”

The Dissentors recently formed in 2005 and are a rocknroll trio with a sound drawing on a myriad of genres, including rock, blues, punk and pop. Their songs have catchy pop hooks and stripped back choruses which explore musical variety in an accessible manner. Their diverse influences have inspired a number of sounds - from blues ballads, and surf rock to high tempo post punk, rock n roll and pop, and include the Velvet Underground, The Clash, The Cure, Blues Explosion, Blondie, Sonic Youth and The Smashing Pumpkins, among many others!

OdESSA and The Dissentors play at Bodega on Saturday 31 March 2007 with DJ Poindexter for some ace ‘80s music. Presales available for $10+bf at Real Groovy and Bodega.
