Phat Moon This Easter
Posted: Tue Mar 27, 2007 5:06 pm
This year Nelson's Phat Club is bringing it's annual Phat Moon Easter Festival to the Coast, following it's highly successful Phat07 Event at New Year, organisers Dave White & Selena Coombes want to thank the festival goers and the local Coasters for their patience with the traffic teething problems encountered at Phat07 & demonstrate the improvements that have been made to the site & to management policies.

Phat Moon presents a range of live bands & DJs from around NZ, featuring a raft of music styles from reggae, dub, jazz, roots, rock & breaks to drum n bass, taking punters on a musical journey through 24 hours of dance in the magical setting that is the scenic Inangahua site, set amongst untouched native bush & beside a pristine river.

Headlining this years festival is NZs top rock/dub/reggae band KORA, who have been wowing audiences throughout the country over the last year with their combination of metal guitars & heavy dub basslines in a "Faith No More" style & who have headlined all of the biggest summer festivals including Rhythm & Vines, Soundsplash, Phat07, The Big Day Out, Cheap as Chips & Parihaka Peace Festival; also headlining is one of NZs most internationally respected & released drum n bass production team THE UPBEATS, who have albums out worldwide through the worlds biggest drum n bass label, "Bad Company Presents" & who regularly headline festivals in Europe & the States; to compliment these 2 acts we have NZs hottest breaks producer Mr TIMMY SCHUMACHER, who along with MC KYLA has released some classic dancefloor anthems & both are in demand as a wicked "rock the party" live DJ/MC team. In total 20 acts including Christchurchs Jazz School graduates DEPARTURE LOUNGE, spearheaded by OAKLEY GRENELL; Ethiopian JUDAH's live reggae, dancehall outfit ONE VIBE based in Nelson; nationally acclaimed Dub Conspiracy released roots band WICKED DRAW & internationally released drum n bass producers AGENT ALVIN & ORGANIKISMNESS will hit the Phat Moon stages over 2 nights 6-8 April. Local band FECK FUNGA (Inangahua/Westport) & DJs 2FG KRU (Greymouth) & HIP (Westport) will also receive mainstage spots as a large & important part of the Phat philosophy is to support local upcoming original acts.

The mainstage at Phat Moon will operate from noon on Sat 7 April until noon on Sunday 8 April, with a soundsystem in the cafe/bar area cranking up the night before when the gates open 6pm Friday 6 April, to allow punters plenty of time to access the site & find the best camping spots prior to the main event itself. Music on the first night will be from Alt TV's (Sky TV) Roll Show (Saturday night drum n bass) presenters CHARLIE B & FUNKSHUN, who will be filming a documentary of Phat Moon for the show; plus Wellington breaks female DJ ALITA1, co Wellington DJ SNAX & the ROAST KRU from Nelson.

All information & on-line ticket sales can be found at the phat Clubs website www.phatclub.co.nz with the $50 tickets also available on the Coast at Bottomline Music in MacKay St Greymouth & The Bayhouse Cafe, Tauranga Bay Westport.

Phat Moon is open to all-ages, however photo ID will need to be shown to access the Jagermeister Bar area, & persons under the age of 14 will be required to be accompanied by an adult.

The organisers will be using Phat Moon to provide training for locally based West Coast youth workers who want to specialise in Health & Safety Training for future Phat events on the Coast such as this years planned PHAT08, the training to be conducted by the head trainers from Nelsons long running & highly successful HYPE Team, anyone interested in joining this training session should contact Julie Anne Griffiths at the West Coast Youth Workers Collective, PO Box 236, Westport. In addition to Health & Safety Workers, who's job it is to look out for anyone suffering from any kind of stress due to alcohol, drugs, herbals, sun stroke, hypothermia etc & to provide a chill out area or refer them to the ambulance or security teams; Phat Moon will be staffed by experienced security & St Johns Ambulance Crews to ensure everyone has a safe & enjoyable festival.

An extensive food cafe & bar will be available, cash only no eftpos, free water will be provided with 4 new 35,000 litre water tanks now permanently installed on site, & the first of a series of brand new flush toilet blocks will be on trial at the event, a first for any outdoor music festival in the country!
