Labour of Love Posted: Sun Jul 22, 2007 10:44 am Labour of Love Concert Saturday October 20, 2007 Labour of Love concert tickets will go on sale at 10am, Monday, July 23 via Ticketmaster.co.nz, zillionstars.com and at Liquorland Gisborne. The concert is being held at Gisborne’s new dual-purpose venue, the Riding School for the Disabled, next to the Showgrounds on Saturday, October 20, 2007. Performing will be Evermore, Carly Binding and Blackbird. Labour of Love is a party to share with family and friends. It’s something for the whole family to enjoy over Labour weekend. It’s also the night before the Gisborne Wine & Food Festival so is part of a massive weekend in the city. The concert is also an Oxjam event to raise awareness for Oxfam’s Make Fair Trade campaign. Oxjam is a nationwide month of music with a message – help end poverty by making trade fair. From classical to club night folk, funk and punk – it all adds up to one huge New Zealand-wide, party against poverty in October. The concert will also raise money for the Poverty Bay Rugby Union, helping the region to be a host city for the Rugby World Cup in 2011. Five dollars from every ticket will be donated to the PBRU. Gates open at 4pm and the event will finish at 10.30pm. Tickets cost $55 each, and can be purchased via www.zillionstars.com or www.ticketmaster.co.nz or at Gisborne Liquorland. Headline act Evermore, consisting of the three Hume brothers – Jon, Peter and Dann – are an Australian-based Kiwi rock band. They have come a long way since the release of their debut album Dreams. With more than 300 live shows, an MTV Award, a NZ Music Award, the APRA Silver Scroll, five ARIA nominations, and hung a platinum record plaque on the wall of their home studio, the trophy cabinet is bulging. Carly Binding, comes from a background rich in music, so it’s a natural progression for Binding to be in the limelight. Her hit song So Radiate and recent move to Los Angeles will only cement her evolving successful career. Local band Blackbird consists of three core members, Hamish Pinkham, Jamie Buckley and Kyle Bell. They’re an acoustic/folk band passionate about making good music for people to enjoy. Other members in the band, friends of the trio who love to jam and make sweet music. They originated in Gisborne at the home of Rhythm & Vines, and are excited to kick start the inaugural Labour of Love concert. It’s a rare treat to see them perform so be there early to enjoy the soulful sounds of Blackbird. The Labour of Love concert will be an excellent addition to the fun filled Gisborne Labour Weekend festivities. Tickets are limited to 3000 and organizers are expecting a quick sellout.
