Phat 08

"In a decision handed down today by Terry Archer, Manager of Regulatory Services at the Buller District Council, Dave White & Selena Coombes, directors of Phat Festivals Ltd & owners of Nelsons Phat Club, have been granted a 10 year Resource Consent to stage 2 festivals per year at the Inangahua site used last New Years for the Phat07 Event.

The couple have a 10 year lease with renewal options on the site which White describes as a gorgeously scenic secluded valley hideaway complete with its own river & swimming holes which has undergone massive developments over the course of this year including land clearing, flattening & drainage, roading & the installation of a reticulated water supply, header & sewage tanks & 2 blocks of flush toilets. A number of conditions which have been worked through with the Police, Council, DOC, Transit NZ & neighbouring landowners have been placed on the consent, including an extensive reporting/notification procedure prior to & following each event ensuring adequate consultation & evaluation keeps everyone affected by the festival in the loop. Festival numbers for the annual New Years Eve event which will run over 5 days & 4 nights have been restricted to 5000 ticket holders, & for the 2nd smaller Easter Event to 1000, to ensure the effects on locals remain temporary & relatively minor.

White states the support & enthusiasm for the event from both the Buller Council, businesses in neighbouring towns such as Reefton & Murchison & local landowners has been extremely positive, with reports of significant increases in turnover as a direct result of last years festival from local businesses. Last years major traffic snarlup has been the major issue to be addressed by Transit NZ & the Police, with punters being able to enter over a 2 day period this year, significant road widening & development & a large increase in processing staff being employed by the event & a pre-party in the 2nd zone to be staged the night before the mainstage opens all steps being taken to ensure no repeat of the main highway blockages experienced last year.

White states feedback received from last years event from locals was overwhelmingly in favour of keeping the festival in the region, with both economic benefits & the "bringing together of families & particularly keeping young people on the Coast for New Years" being the main reasons for this.

This years Phat08 will feature over 85 national & international acts including UK breakbeat sensations The Freestylers who headlined last years major Glastonbury Festival; drum n bass legends Zinc & Dynamite, Black Sun Empire, D-Bridge Bad Company UK, Digital, Phace & Misanthrop, Gridlok USA, Psidream Canada as well as a major hip hop act yet to be announced. Top NZ bands include Salmonella Dub, Shapeshifter, Katchafire, Open Souls, Pitch Black, The Upbeats, Concord Dawn, Little Bushman, Bulletproof, P-Money, House of Shem, Departure Lounge, The Nomad Band, Antiform, Wicked Draw, Timmy Schumacher & MC Kyla.

Tickets for this years event will be $195 + booking fee, with a limited 1000 early bird tickets at the special price of $125 + booking fee being released through the website www.phatclub.co.nz on Saturday 1st of September."
