Brisbane band The Gin Club are to join Sydney’s littlebob and Wellington’s country heroes The Shot Band for a nationwide tour of NZ this September, bringing together some of the finest alt-country and folk-rock artists the Antipodes have to offer.

The Gin Club are a musical collective, featuring eight singer-songwriters that produce a unique brand of accordion, banjo, and cello-flavoured ‘convict-rock’. Backed by glorious harmonies and heart-rending lyrics, The Gin Club deliver a varied, yet beautifully cohesive collection of tunes, and have been described as a cross between The Pogues and The Band, via Neil Young, Crowded House and Spiritualized.

The band has been busy recording their third album, which is the follow-up to 2005’s critically acclaimed Fear of the Sea. Their reputation as an outstanding live act has seen The Gin Club support Australian heroes such as You Am I, Youth Group, The Drones and Paul Kelly, as well as international acts like Midlake, Soundtrack of Our Lives, Iron and Wine and Laura Veirs. They have recently performed at the East Coast Blues & Roots Festival (Byron Bay) and Canadian Music Week (Toronto).

The Shot Band have been called NZ’s finest alt-country band, and rightly so. Featuring three singer-songwriters, each with their own distinct style and playing a host of different instruments, The Shot Band present a varied and inspired blend of country, folk, pop, and even gospel.

Following the release of their debut self-titled album in 2005, The Shot Band have enjoyed airplay in the US and the UK, and have played to rapt audiences throughout NZ and Australia, recently headlining the Norfolk Island Country Music Festival.

Sydney’s littlebob boast a musical pedigree to be reckoned with The band’s Wayne Tritton has worked with members of the Hoodoo Gurus, Weddings, Parties, Anything, and The Black Sorrows. Tritton joined Steve Waters to form littlebob, a country-folk duo with a sense of humour and a swag full of great songs. littlebob has been praised as delivering a successful blend of those two great intangibles: rock credibility and pop sensibility.

Together, The Gin Club, The Shot Band and littlebob are set to deliver a series of unforgettable performances across NZ.
