LA Mitchell debuts live performances
Posted: Tue Oct 30, 2007 7:48 pm
Fresh from the release of her album Debut that has charmed listeners and impressed the critics, singer-songwriter L.A. Mitchell is set to unveil her live show to national audiences.

LA Mitchell will perform three shows, in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, the first time she tours her new original compositions out of Christchurch.

Mitchell treads rare ground for New Zealand female singer-songwriters, taking complete control for all aspects of producing her debut album. She has taken the route of greater effort to bring greater reward –a lot more work for her to manager her own career, but it's meant freedom from the restrictions of working with major players in the music industry.

Mitchell's blend of warm soul and jazz has delighted music fans and reviewers around New Zealand, charting positively in the Independent New Zealand Music Charts and gaining favourable reviews in national press. She has been compared to Anita Baker, Joni Mitchell, Hollie Smith, Jill Scott and Alicia Keys.

Tour dates:
Christchurch: November 14 @ Fat Eddies – Free
Wellington: November 15 @ The Matterhorn – Free
Auckland: November 18 @ Shanghai Lil's ? $10

Nick Bollinger, Radio New Zealand:
"There's no question that LA Mitchell's Debut introduces a very talented and creative musician. The grooves, the singing, the whole production are really impressive… We'll be hearing a lot more of LA Mitchell."

Marty Blake, Waikato Times:
"Mitchell's album is beautifully presented and extremely well mastered… I found myself blissfully daydreaming." – ****1/2

Simon Sweetman, North & South:
"Here's a nice surprise… Debut never tries to be anything more than it is: a nice batch of songs from a fresh young talent."

Marty Duda, Real Groove:
"It's difficult to listen to LA Mitchell and not compare her to Hollie Smith. Both are New Zealanders blessed with a beautiful voice and a love of R&B and jazz."

Vicki Anderson, The Christchurch Press:
"Her unique voice insinuates itself into your heart."

Groove Guide:
"She has perfect diction and near perfect pitch. Her touch is light and deft. Her original songs compliment her voice, the band and her piano."
