Velvet Tiger have brought you double-bills in the past and now, raising the ante and maximizing potential for all-bets-are-off rock’n’roll kicks, another double clash of the titans face-off: The Black Lips (Atlanta, GA) and King Brothers (Tokyo, Japan) step into the arena joined by The DHDFDs (Point Chevalier) and The Conjurors (Grey Lynn). Run for cover!

Having previously toured with their spiritual comrades The Mint Chicks, we’ve experienced the hyper-entertaining chaos wrought by Japans King Brothers and their four-pronged musical assault on two previous visits to our shores. All concerned are relieved that they are to be allowed back across our borders, and the wall-scaling, audience space-invading King Brothers are thrilled to return with their calamitous Godzilla-sized noise, ever-eager to dispel that annoying cultural stereotype of Japanese politeness.

And, on their first NZ visit, one of Americas most notoriously unpredictable mobs of miscreants, the Black Lips. Garage? They’ve blown that rickety old shed to smithereens. The latest Black Lips releases, Good Bad Not Evil and ¡Arriba Tijuana! demonstrate just what occurs when this band is let loose to get loose. Actually, that’s only the sound of it, merely a part of the whole widescreen, technicolour experience. One thing you can be sure of, ladies and gentleman, is that the Black Lips will play you a
show.

Time to get off the internet, dispense with the cynicism and bear witness to the redemptive power of no-holds-barred, explosive musical energy. You wouldn’t want to give Santa any reason to punish you, right?
