Anti-Flag Posted: Mon Aug 18, 2008 3:22 pm ANTI-FLAG TO TOUR NEW ZEALAND The Frontier Touring Company is pleased to confirm the return of punk rock heroes Anti-Flag to Australia and New Zealand. Last here as part of 2008’s Big Day Out tour, Anti-Flag left fans wanting more, and more is what they’ll get come December. Anti-Flag will perform for fans in Auckland, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney. Special guests at all Australian shows will be A Death In The Family. Touring in support of their politically charged release The Bright Lights of America, Anti-Flag are in their finest form to date. Pushing themselves out of their comfort zone, The Bright Lights of America was recorded with the legendary Tony Visconti (Bowie, T.Rex, Morrissey) and saw the band take up timpani, piatti, glockenspiels and tubular bells to help perfect their record. Media have gushed over the release, cementing it as one of the strongest, most thought-provoking releases of ’08. Alternative Press: “Bright Lights is a super-serious record that demonstrates some super-serious song craft.” The New York Times: “…their sound — enhanced by the energies of a second guitarist, Chris Head, and a bassist, Chris #2 — literally urges participation. Every song’s chorus helpfully comes prearranged as a sing-along: no room for sullenness here.” Q Magazine: “Their thrillingly angry seventh album is a more furious companion piece to "American Idiot," raging at both social injustice and the self-righteousness of the punk underground.” Their live shows are equally praised, as they inject their frenetic punk rock into all before them. PopMatters were somewhat overwhelmed following a recent show: “The one-two closing punch of “Die for Your Government>Power to the Peaceful” puts an appropriate stamp on the night with another raging anti-war screed followed by a call to arms for non-violent revolution… It’s not one of the longer sets seen at the Fillmore this year, but it’s certainly one of the most intense and most political.” The Manchester Evening News were also thrilled, declaring “This is the best gig I have been to for a very long time.” A Death In The Family emerged in 2004 from Melbourne’s independent punk/hardcore scene. Inspired by the spirit and drive of bands like Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker and Against Me!, A Death In The Family have succeeded in breathing life and excitement into an often tired and generic punk rock sound creating songs that are brilliantly unpredictable, melodically powerful and always executed from the heart. Having recently released a split with Manifesto Jukebox (Poison City Records), the quartet are currently writing the bands second album, scheduled for an early 2009 release on Resist Records. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday 27 August. Please visit www.frontiertouring.com for pre-sale details. ANTI-FLAG New Zealand 2008 Tickets on sale Wednesday 27 August Wednesday 3 December @ Kings Arms 18+ Ticketmaster 09 970 9700 or www.ticketmaster.co.nz; Real Groovy Auckland |

RE: Anti-Flag Posted: Fri Aug 22, 2008 3:32 pm i saw them this year to and was bored to death, i spose it aint my cup of tea anyway but i felt them to be more bout the image than the music and i hate that. plus the sh!t they were saying bout george bush and peace etc i just wasn't feeling. oh and the "our good friends in rage against the machine" got the most crowd reaction even though i somehow doubt they are best buds. i don't know i just really didn't enjoy it (and i really tried) |

RE: Anti-Flag Posted: Fri Nov 21, 2008 6:26 pm The show booked for Anti-Flag in Auckland in December has now been postponed. The announcement from the promoters is as follows: "The Frontier Touring Company regret to advise that due to personal reasons the scheduled Anti-Flag tour of Australia and New Zealand in December has had to be postponed. At this point in time new dates are still to be confirmed, so it is recommended that fans seek a full refund from their original point of purchase." No details are yet available on rescheduled dates, but the indication is clear that the shows will go ahead, albeit at a later date. |
