Hip Hop Aotearoa Posted: Wed Oct 15, 2008 3:27 pm Hip Hop Aotearoa is proud to be part of Kaupapa Maori Music Week. It will be held at Bar Bodega in Wellington on the 30th October 2008. Tickets are on sale now through www..ticketek.co.nz. This event features up and coming and established Maori artists within the Hip Hop scene in Aotearoa and is hosted by DJ Poroufessor. 4 Corners released their debut album ‘The Foundations’ in 2006. This featured the likes of Tyra Hammond, Ladi 6, P-Money, Tyna and Che Fu. They have toured throughout Aotearoa, Australia and Laos and also performed at the last 2 Pao Pao Pao events and the first Pao Pao Pao at Waikato University. They are looking forward to coming back to perform as this will be their first performance in Wellington for 2008. Tyna aka The Natural is one of New Zealand’s most exciting artists. He’s featured on some of New Zealand’s biggest-selling albums including Scribe’s ‘The Crusader’ and Nesian Mystik’s ‘Polysaturated’. This year he has featured on Recloose’s album which won a New Zealand Music Award this year. Tyna will be on tour in Europe in November 2008 and Hip Hop Aotearoa will be kicking this off for him to celebrate his new single ‘Overjoyed’. Princess ATAK aka Katerina Pihera originally featured in a local Rotorua hip-hop crew called Random Klik. She has performed alongside New Zealand artists such as Kora, Katchafire, Ladi 6, Che Fu, King Kapisi, Deceptikonz as well as a number of international performers. She integrates aspects of kapa haka and taonga puoro in her hip hop performances. This will be her debut at Kaupapa Maori Music Week. Infinite Rensta & DJ Kinetic are gaining a reputation for entertaining live shows using DJ Kinetic’s tight production as a turntabilist over-laying Infinite Rensta’s poetic rhyme style. They have been involved in the Auckland underground hip-hop scene for the last seven years. Rensta has also been performing and collaborating as a vocalist for the Kingites an Auckland-based conscious roots band. This will also be their debut at Kaupapa Maori Music Week. |
