COLDPLAY ANNOUNCE THE “VIVA LA VIDA” TOUR WILL COME TO NEW ZEALAND!

Chugg Entertainment today confirmed that Coldplay will visit New Zealand following their eleven arena shows in Australia next March. The show will be part of their “Viva La Vida” world tour, in support of their new album of the same name.

Coldplay will play at Auckland’s Vector Arena on Wednesday 18 March 2009 with tickets going on sale to the general public through Ticketmaster at 9am Monday 22 December.

In 2006 thousands of New Zealanders lobbied Auckland radio station ZM to get Coldplay to include New Zealand on their world tour but unfortunately New Zealand missed out. This year once again supporters have been holding their breath while tickets for the Australian tour dates have been selling faster than ever, hoping they would come here this time.

Countless fans contacted Vector Arena and Ticketmaster desperate for news, and the venue and ticket agency in turn lobbied Chugg Entertainment to make the New Zealand dates a possibility.

Promoter Michael Chugg is thrilled to be the bearer of good news “Finally, fans can take a well deserved deep breath. The wait is over New Zealand, we will be bringing Coldplay’s Viva La Vida tour to Vector Arena next March and it’s going to be huge!” said Chugg.

Following on from an overwhelming response to Australia’s Visa Entertainment pre-sale, a similar pre-sale will be offered to New Zealand’s Visa card holders. A special pre-sale window will start at 9am local time on Friday 19 December and run through until 5pm on Saturday 20 December unless tickets sell out earlier. Tickets go on sale to the general public via Ticketmaster on Monday 22 December. Ticket details are available at www.ticketmaster.co.nz or (09) 970 9700.

Coldplay’s Viva La Vida - Prospekt’s March edition has just been released in time for the tour announcement. The two-disc deluxe package includes Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, the band’s fourth full-length album, plus a brand new EP entitled Prospekt’s March. The EP, which will also be for sale separately, includes six recently-completed songs that the band had begun recording during the Viva La Vida sessions and brand new versions of two album tracks – Lost + (featuring Jay-Z) and Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun mix). Viva La Vida was released in June 2008 and went on to chart at No. 1 in 36 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, where it spent four weeks in the number one spot. The first two singles from the album; Violet Hill and Viva La Vida, both went top 3 in the New Zealand airplay chart. And just this week the album has gone double platinum!

BY OVERWHELMING DEMAND, A SECOND NEW ZEALAND SHOW ANNOUNCED!

Coldplay’s New Zealand fans waited patiently for news that the ‘Viva La Vida’ tour would come to Auckland, and now comes the news that they will get not one, but two shows next year. A second show on Thursday 19 March at Vector Arena has been confirmed ahead of the public on sale, Monday 22 December.

Following the success of the widely advertised Visa Entertainment pre-sale, promoter Michael Chugg today confirmed that an additional Coldplay show would come to Auckland next March.

Coldplay’s inclusion of New Zealand in their world tour has been a long time coming with fans having missed out on a show as part of their 2006 Twisted Logic tour. This time around, those fans made sure that they would not miss out again, lobbying venue Vector Arena and Ticketmaster to get behind the cause and bring the Viva La Vida tour to Auckland.

Well, not only was the voice of the New Zealand fans heard loud and clear, but also now they will have one more show on sale this Monday, and an even better chance of securing tickets to the biggest concert event of 2009.

Promoter Michael Chugg has seen similar activity in the Australian market when early sales warranted the addition of more shows before the general public on-sale had commenced.

Chugg says “It’s not standard to announce more shows before the first ones go to public sale, but when people see how much demand there is for the pre-sale, we don’t want them to feel like they’ve missed out… so we’re telling people up front, you asked for it, so you’ve got two shows to choose from New Zealand – and they’re both going to be magic! Get in quick!”

Chugg Entertainment’s Production Manager, Jon Pope, who recently attended several dates on the Viva La Vida tour in America, states, “This is one of the best shows I have ever seen in my 30 years of touring. The show is extraordinary with the production setup including two stage thrusts that project out onto the floor giving those on the floor a concert experience right alongside the band.”

The New Zealand shows on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 March will follow on from 11 Arena shows across Australia. Tickets are on sale this Monday through Ticketmaster.

Don’t miss your chance to secure tickets when they go on sale 9am Monday.
