Posted: Sun Jun 21, 2009 11:12 am
Society of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock Inc.
PRESENTS:

HMHR TOUR 09
2009s’ Month of Metal Madness!

Prepare yourselves for the largest touring Metal and Hard Rock lineup to hit
New Zealand……. EVER!

In association with the Axe Attack and Music Event Management Ltd the SocHMHRInc are proud to announce the Twenty band showcasing tour of 09!

No other metal tour has or will again have up to 11 touring bands on one stage over 5 death-defying nights!

HMHR TOUR INFORMATION:

The SocHMHRinc proudly brings New Zealand metallers and rock heads the tour that they have all been waiting for.

This unique showcasing tour features a collection of New Zealands finest metal and rock bands in an eclectic mix that represents the dynamic and diverse nature of New Zealands contemporary rock and metal scenes.

The tour begins the month long party on the 31st of July in New Zealands Bogan capital at Waikatos’ most hard rocking bar, Palladium. This opening night is amazingly free to attendees.

This bone crushing, bar tapping lineup then travels across country to blast the ears of Tauranga metal heads by taking the stage at Brewers Bar on the first of August. This will be the largest lineup to hit Tauranga in livable memory and will only cost punters a minimal $5 cover charge.

The majority of this tour party then rips it back up the nation to Auckland on the eighth where they will be joined by another three killer bands from as far south as Christchurch. This devastating lineup will only cost the attendees $10 per head to witness this colossal showcasing.

After a week of well-deserved rest the tour puts the pedal to the metal and hits the road again. This time the black clad army will be hitting Wellington on the fourteenth of August. This devastating, beer guzzling 9 band war party will take the stage at 8pm and have you banging your heads till 3am. This once again is the largest lineup Wellington has seen in one ear shattering night.

The tour then concludes on the 15th at the legendary Basement in New Plymouth. The tour party will consist of bands from Wanganui, Wellington, Auckland and Palmerston North. The music will feature everything from metalcore to brutal death grind. A mind-blowing way to finish a sure fire success of a tour. No ear will go unpunished!

HMHR TOUR 09 BAND BIOS
The Biggest metal tour to hit NZs’ roads… EVER!

Tainted
http://www.myspace.com/taintednz
(Christchurch Chapter)
Tainted is New Zealands biggest metal hope. The Christchurch metalcore band has accomplished much in their short career. Tainted have recently released their debut album “Carved and Created” to critical acclaim and opened for many internationals including the worlds’ biggest metal band Iron Maiden. Not only this but they are the first New Zealand metal band to receive full Jackson sponsorship.

These guys are leading the way with prowess, dignity and above all power.

Tainted are headlining the Auckland HMHR Tour show.

Just One Fix
http://www.justonefix.orconhosting.net.nz
(Auckland Chapter)
Just One Fix is an Auckland based four-piece thrash metal band that has been together in one form or another since 1998.

They have been fortunate enough to play with international titans Megadeth (2001), Hellyeah (2007), Korn/ Chimaira/ Biohazard (2008 ), Big Day Out (2009) and the first HMHR Metal Fest.

With the current line up of Riccardo Ball (vocals), Sharne Scarborough (guitars), Martin "Foetus" Kemble (drums) and Lee Steele (bass), Just One Fix are currently recording the follow up to 2007's the Price of $ellvation.

See them in the flesh on the HMHR Metal Fest tour in Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga.

Legacy of Disorder
http://www.legacyofdisorder.com
(Nelson Chapter)
Legacy of Disorder comes, for the most part, from New Zealand. Lead guitarist, Rana Freilich, recruited bassist, Jason Keill, in 2001 and later vocalist James Robinson in 2005 to shape their own brand of metal.

Earlier this year the band headed for Dallas, Texas, where, under the guidance of producer Sterling Winfield (Pantera; Damageplan; Hellyeah) they recorded their debut album, recruiting drummer Matt Thompson in the process. Matt Thompson has been the drummer for King Diamond since 2000.

With a lethal mix of youth and experience, Legacy of Disorder is heading for the highway and set to conquer new markets world wide with their next release.

Legacy of Disorder is playing Hamilton, Mount Maunganui and Auckland.

Set On End
http://www.myspace.com/setonend
(Auckland Chapter)
Set on End strives for their own pure musical expression as well as the expansion and solidification of New Zealand’s metal scene.

In a world gone awry, rendered docile by the endless tide of blood stained goods and political and religious systems designed to favor the elite, yet destroy the lives and means of the poor, Set on End have dedicated their existence to forcing their ideologies onto the unwilling through their melodic yet aggressive groove.

Set On End is playing all the dates of the HMHR Tour 09.

Bloodletting
http://www.myspace.com/bloodlettingband
(Auckland Chapter)
Bloodletting combine elements of extreme thrash and brewtal metalcore to create a spastically ear shattering sound that is light years above their youthful age. These guys have recently come off touring with 8 ft Sativa and have blown audiences away all over the country. Let the blood sports begin!

You can see Bloodletting Play at the Auckland show of the Tour.

Fractured
http://www.myspace.com/fractured
(Auckland Chapter)
Fractured formed at the start of 2007 when guitarists Joe Baxendale and Gareth Scott, and drummer Nathan Trainor left the New Zealand "Hard Rock" band Remote to form this much heavier project. Mark Kelly joined shortly thereafter on vocals, and the band spent the remainder of 2007 writing. Malcolm Blake (BBB) took up bass duties at the end of 2007.

Midway through 2009 Malcolm left to pursue another project, and bass player Carl Win took up the vacant position. In June of 2009, Fractured started the recording of their first album.

Fractured are playing Hamilton, The Mount and Auckland

Anabyss
http://www.myspace.com/anabyssmetal
(Auckland Chapter)
Having recently completed the first serious recording (Battleground, Dehabilitation & With Your Disease, at the Asylum recording studio in Auckland) Anabyss is poised for action.

Having not lost the will to strive for a unique sound, Anabyss continues its assault on the senses; and with more songs, more shows and more recordings on the horizon, you can expect to hear more of the name Anabyss in the near future.

Anabyss are playing all the HMHR TOUR shows.

Heavy Artillery
http://www.myspace.com/heavyartillery1
(Auckland Chapter)
Heavy Artillery is an Auckland-based heavy metal band known for their heavy, experimental style and unique live performances. Formed in 2003, Heavy Artillery has evolved greatly over the years, with their current line-up being the most successful and enjoyable to date. Claiming always that they "do it for the love of it", the Heavy Artillery boys work hard to create music that is both reminiscent of the bands of the past and encompassing of heavy metal as it is today.

Auckland is where you will get the chance to catch Heavy Artillery

Never Repent
http://www.myspace.com/pigonastick123
(Auckland Chapter)
Never repent are brewtal kiwi deathcore at its finest. The band features two singers that bait each other vocally on stage while fingers tear across fret boards with professional precision. These boys move the audience big time!

Never Repent are taking the stage at the Auckland Show.

Slave Cadaver
http://www.myspace.com/slavecadaver
(Wellington Chapter)
Slave Cadaver's music is a death metal/grindcore hybrid with heavy grooves and bizarre rhythms. Their first album 'Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity' is available now through myspace or at any upcoming gigs. 2009 will see the band work on new material and recordings.

Incarnium
http://www.myspace.com/incarnium
(Auckland Chapter)
Auckland based Incarnium have recently finished recording their debut Ep with Asylum Records in Mt Eden and are turning heads, and not just because their Bass Player Karyn is drop dead gorgeous! The band is making waves with their brutal incorporation of classic metal and thrashy chops.

Check Incarnium out at the Auckland show.

Darklight Corporation
http://www.myspace.com/darklightcorporation
(Wellington Chapter)
“The sound of a revolution,” is how Chris Prenter describes the music of Darklight Corporation. “We want it be a full-on assault on the senses. It’s ‘wake up, sit up and take notice’.” Musically, Darklight Corporation sounds like the lost lovechild of Nine Inch Nails and Mudvayne, conceived on the couch of Slipknot and brought up by the Prodigy. Hard, heavy and industrial, Darklight Corporation still retains a pop-influenced simplicity.

Aethea
http://www.myspace.com/aethea
(Wellington Chapter)
The band spammed hard for years playing gigs all over the place to gypsies, tramps and thieves. Somehow along the way they also scored prestigious supports with the likes of The Amenta, Psycroptic & Dismember, making them undoubtedly one of the greatest bands of all time.
Aetheas music is a mix of death & grindcore with a twist of groove and inhuman guttural pig noises. The music will stretch your ring but you'll feel better afterwards.

Evil Alchemy
http://www.myspace.com/evilalkemy
Since 2007, Evil Alchemy have written their first EP titled 'Violent Hertz' which was set to be the first step towards releasing their debut album. It includes live footage from The Valve Bar in Wellington and recorded works from the studio

You can catch Evil Alchemy at the Wellington Show

Pariah
http://www.myspace.com/pariah666metal
(Wanganui Chapter)
Now with a direction for their own defined sound, Pariah have produced a steady flow of originals, and with each new piece different and standing out from the next, it is difficult to categorize their heaviness into a specific genre.

Pariah has a very influenced but unique sound, a “new age” metal while still retaining their brutal roots.
You can see Pariah at the Wellington and New Plymouth Show

Burn The Scripture
http://www.myspace.com/burnthescripture
(Auckland Chapter)
Burn the Scripture are not your typical thrash band – they feature no bass player but make up for it in droves with slaughtering guitar solos and pounding drums.

The BTS boys also employ a multitude of effects pedals to enhance their sound including employing octave pedals to drop their lows lower then most bass players.

Burn The Scripture will be playing the entire HMHR Tour.

Wretch
(Waikato Chapter)
Formed in late 2008, Wretch has quickly come out from the shadows and is now making headway in the growing Waikato metal scene. The band have already played ten gigs and are set to tear the stage apart on the forth coming HMHR Tour.

Wretch will play the Hamilton and Mount shows.

Coffin Feeder
(Waikato Chapter)
Coffin Feeder reign from the small Waikato town of Cambridge. They play a brutal style of metal, with hardcore drops mixed in with shredding guitar wizardry.

Coffin Feeder have played both HMHR Fests and are working there way up the metal food chain, not stopping till they get the international opening slots they deserve.

Coffin Feeder will be playing the Hamilton Show.

Utu
(Waikato Chapter)
New Zealands’ only full Maori metal band. Utu play a unique style of thrash metal with strong political messages to back it up. They have shared the stage with giants such as Just One Fix and Sinate.

Utu are playing Hamilton and The Mount.

Dormitabo
http://www.myspace.com/dormitabo
(Taranaki Chapter)
Dormitabo are a dominating four piece that have been a band since 2005 originally getting together for rock quest, whilst they were at school. They decided to partake in rock quest for a second time which we got placed second. Since then they have come far as a band, playing with some great New Zealand bands such as, 8 Foot Sativa, Subtract, Set on End, Magnum Opus, Sinate, Agent, Cripple Mr. Onion, Wrath, Chugganaut, Legacy of Disorder, In Dread Response and many more.

Dormitabo will be playing the New Plymouth date.

Cage Demise
http://www.myspace.com/cagedemise
(Taranaki Chapter)
Cage Demise, a 3 piece metal band hailing from Palmerston North NZ. Formed in late 2006, Cage Demise have spent the last 12 months playing local shows, as well as gigs in Wellington, Napier, New Plymouth, and Paraparaumu. Cage Demise brings a mixture of Metal and Hardcore to create an original Heavy Metal sound, backed up by Brutal stage presence.

Cage Demise are playing the New Plymouth date.

The Society of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock
Joel C Thompson

A brief history.
The society was finally incorporated on the 11th of June 2008. The process of incorporation took about six months from start to finish. The society began with 15 members.

The idea of setting up a Heavy Metal and Hard Rock society originally grew out of frustration with the lack of support for the music that is enjoyed by many. Metallers were complaining about the non-existent funding for heavy music and the absent infrastructure within the metal and rock communities. The deficiency of resources was forcing the metal population apart. At this time there was huge resistance between the heavily split metal fraternity to accept other metal and rock sub-genres other than their chosen variety.

The time had come to forge a new all encompassing network of people to support each other. It was time for Bogans, Metallers and Rockers to take command of their own shared path. It was time to form a supportive society of people that are diverse in outlook on life but united by one common thread – heavy music.

Where we are now.
The society now has 6 regional chapters, 6 regional presidents, a national executive and over 500 associated members.

Regional chapters democratically elect a president, a secretary, and if they deem necessary a youth representative, Maori representative, female representative. These additional representatives can hold sub-meetings and then report back to the regional executive if they have additional issues or require further support.

Each chapter is also encouraged to host a regular event/ meeting to promote the society and to raise awareness about our metal and rock loving lifestyles.

Regional and national databases are set up and maintained as new members join. This database is available to bands and members nationwide to promote music events and to share information with each other. This system allows bands that want to get exposure outside of their home town by accessing the database to set up and promote shows in the towns that they wish to tour. It also avails them to local inside support from each region.

Tomorrow and Beyond.
Within the next year a regional chapter will appear in every town in New Zealand. Each chapter will come together once a year at a large open aired festival that celebrates our diverse musical tastes and honors our heavy music orientated lifestyles. In conjunction with Music Event Management Ltd the society will host their first large scale multiple staged event this summer. The event will stage all facets of heavy music with four dedicated stages. These stages will host metal, rock, hardcore and punk. The event will also showcase the different lifestyles that are found within the wider heavy music community.

The Society would also like to see more metal and hard rock played on mainstream media networks. Once a band receives regular rotation the artists can make applications for governmental funding. Funding will increase the standard of the products metal artists can make, the amount of promotion they will have available and ultimately raise the caliber of both the music and the Heavy Metal lifestyles.

Summary.
To achieve this common dream members must all do what they can to sign up new members and to spread the message of the society. The most important future aspiration that the society can have is to support one another’s musical ambitions and to challenge the preconceptions that are associated with the horn throwing community. It is vitally important to the longevity of the society that members all pull together and attend as many shows as possible and put into practice the morals and guidelines of the society to build and enhance the movement of heavy music. Members have to encourage the next generation to embrace heavy music so that the dream flourishes to its fullest potential. This will secure the future of the society and empower the youth who feel disenfranchised from the mainstream pop sensibilities that established members have struggled against.

Members should all be strong and proud of the music and lifestyles that they have embraced and take time to support the infrastructure that is working to ensure that the social phenomenon, that is the SocHMHRInc, is nurtured to grow into the supportive social network that it is destined to be.
