Southern Amp 2009 Posted: Sun Aug 16, 2009 8:11 pm This just in from Southern Amp 2009: To all loyal Southern-Ampers around the World… This should catch you on a lazy Friday evening when you are looking for some news leading into the weekend so you can text your best mates, Twitter it to your fellow twitterers, Facebook your many Friends and chat about over Friday binge-drinks, basically TALK IT UP Amp-heads!! SOUTHERN AMP 2009 IS ON!! Ok apologies first, we’ve been a little private/secret/quiet/potentially anal over the last 10 months but with good reason as the pseudo-anonymous ‘Amp-team’ has been locked away in private rooms all over the country working on this year’s plans. It’s been a bit like Guns & Roses “Chinese Democracy”… things have been built up, written, scrapped, reborn, fights have broken out, things have been said, record company execs have been pulling their hair out, bands and media have been hassling, but all through we have stayed focused to the task in hand… BRING ON SOUTHERN AMP 2009 This is just a rally-round newsletter to squash any untimely and unfounded rumours that we might not be doing anything this year… Ok, you have AC/D C, Southern Amp, Pearl Jam & Ben Harper, Southern Amp, Green Day, Black Eyed Peas, Southern Amp, Nickelback, Southern Amp, Megadeth & Slayer, Southern Amp, Rhythm & Vines, Southern Amp and Big Day Out ALL coming soon. What a choice… but we all LOVE live music and LOVE the fact that we can see so much fab stuff in this land. So after so much planning we decided to spread the Amp-wings a bit this year as well so here’s just a ‘first-cab-off-the-rank’ bit of news for our loyal base of fans before all the other info goes out… These are the dates for your diaries… Christchurch Southern Amp – Thursday 12th November (Friday is a public holiday!) And then… we will be planting a few Southern Amp seeds into Auckland between 13th – 15th November! No point glowing if you’re not growing! TICKETS – we are bringing the ticket price down this year to respect the tough year we’ve all had. There will be rock-bottom student prices, seriously affordable general pricing and some premium stuff as well. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO • Mark it in your diaries • Tell your friends • Tell your friends to tell their friends… • Get your friends to sign up to the database at www.southernamp.co.nz as you could WIN lots of Southern Amp STUFF if they do… THERE WILL BE PILES OF OTHER INFO INCLUDING ARTISTS, VENUES, AWESOME SPECIAL OFFERS AND LOTS OF OTHER CRAZY STUFF COMING VERY SOON. But for now, enjoy your weekend, relax in the fact that SOUTHERN AMP 09 is BACK and you can get all reckless once again. The ‘now out in the open’ Southern Amp Team… |

RE: Southern Amp 2009 Posted: Thu Aug 20, 2009 2:55 pm Nah mate been surprisingly hush-hush this time around. Dunno if I'll be hit up do help with some graphic design again... and if I do, I'm usually sworn to secrecy anyways. |

RE: Southern Amp 2009 Posted: Tue Aug 25, 2009 12:57 pm Here's the latest from Southern Amp SOUTHERN AMP 09 - VENUE, TIMES, TICKET PRICES & A BIT OF A BUZZ... DATE, TIME & VENUE Christchurch will once again stage the South Island's biggest Multi-stage festival when Southern Amp 09 kicks into life on Thursday 12th November from 4.30pm til midnight at Westpac Arena in Addington. Amp-fans will not have to freak out about work or Uni the next day either with Friday 13th November being a holiday and the start of the Canterbury long weekend... A FEW CHANGES After running the event for the first time at the Arena last year we learned some lessons and have changed lots of things for SAmp09 with the biggest changes being the set up INSIDE the Arena... This year two massive main stages will stand side-by-side pumping out continuous live vibes. Main Stages AMP-A and AMP-B will run along the length of one side of the Arena instead of the usual main stage position at the back of the Arena. This gives a much wider view, much more 'closer to the action' experience but most importantly NON-STOP LIVE MUSIC. While AMP-A is live, AMP-B will be setting up for the next band, as soon as A ends, B will burst into life. There will also be a 3rd stage featuring some of our best local bands & DJs + the usual outdoor area for bars, food stalls etc. TICKET PRICES Full band annoucements will go out this coming weekend with the Earlybird allocation of tickets going on sale MONDAY 7th SEPTEMBER at 9.00am at the CRAZY RECESSION-BUSTING 15% LOWER THAN 2008 price of just $69.50 + bkg fees from TICKETEK and REAL GROOVY. This is the lowest price that Southern Amp tickets have EVER BEEN! This general admission allocation will be strictly limited at this price and will be available for one month only unless sold out before... After that GA ticket prices will rise to $89.50 + bkg fees, this price is STILL a massive 20% lower than last year's GA adult price... There will again be reserved premium seating tickets facing straight onto the double main stages priced at $99.50. The other change this year is that Southern Amp 09 will be R18 restricted, ID will be required on purchase. CREATING A BUZZ Finally Southern Amp can confirm lots of rumours that have created a bit of a 'buzz' recently (especially after they released details on their own website last week...) but we are delighted to announce that UK punk heroes the BUZZCOCKS will be playing loud & fast like guys half their age at SAmp09! The South Island will be treated to UK pop-punk heroes on their first Mainland visit since they formed in the heady punk days of 1978 and created a thousand imitators world-over. With a breakneck set featuring punk classics 'Boredom', 'Ever Fallen in Love', 'I Don't Mind', ‘Orgasm Addict’ and plenty more their wild stage gyrations, arm swinging and fast guitars will leave ya charged! SIGN UP & WIN! So that's the first info, their is also a pre-announcement 'sign-up' draw running at southernamp.co.nz for you and 4 of your mates to win SAmp tickets. All FIVE of you have to be signed up to our newsletter email list to qualify for the draw, so text, email, Twitter your mates get them to sign up and when they have send an email to [email protected] with all FIVE names and email addresses. Also our 787 text alert is back in operation so FREETXT 'AMP' to 787 if you haven't already and you'll receive news and offers from Vodafone as well. That's the latest Amp-news, watch out for the line-up announcements later this week and get in quick on those Earlybird tickets, THEY WON'T LAST LONG! Catch ya next time The SAmp09 crew |

RE: Southern Amp 2009 Posted: Sun Dec 20, 2009 9:34 am Announcement from Southern Amp: We have looked at every possibility of rescheduling the Southern Amp festival before the end of this summer but a really loaded gig calendar countrywide and MOSTLY, the lack of availability of a decent outdoor venue in or around Christchurch to hold it at has made us finally decide to 'park' the plans for this summer on ice and focus our efforts on bringing Southern Amp back with full force next November/December. We are already in discussion with various international acts and local venues and will bring you more news in the New Year as soon as we have it. For those of you still holding tickets to Southern Amp 09, Ticketek will refund them for you. |
