Due to the recent earthquake in Christchurch and the CBD being closed down, it is very likely that any gigs due to take place in Christchurch during this weekend will no longer be taking place.

We'll keep you posted if any further information regarding these gigs comes available.

Canterbury Police said the inner-city would be closed until tomorrow while assessments of damaged buildings was carried out.

No businesses or licensed premises would open and no one, other than inner-city residents or people with bona-fide reasons to enter the area, would be allowed in. Police will man cordons throughout the night.

The CBD-area affected by the cordon is bordered by Montreal, Kilmore, Madras and St Asaph streets.

VENUE UPDATES

- El Santo in Lyttelton and the Dux de Lux in Christchurch are still both open for business.

- Goodbye Blue Monday is also intact, but not easily accessible at this stage.

Tommy Ill should hear back today (8 Sept) regarding his gig, and he is determined to continue to play in Christchurch regardless.

- The CBS Arena is fully intact and the Metallica concerts will be taking place as planned.

However, it should be noted that the state of emergency has been extended a further 7 days. This means Civil Defence has the power to close buildings and restrict access to certain areas.

The Bedford has not been affected by the quakes and is structurally sound, however the Black Seeds gig booked for 11 Sept has now been changed to 30 Oct due to no guarantees of reliable power and water.

The RounDUp Band competition will be postponed from the original starting date (this weekend).

The Decknology DJ competition may also be postponed.

New dates will be confirmed as soon as possible.
