SWAMPFEST

Good Evening and Welcome to
SWAMPFEST 05

New Zealand Music Month will be kicked off in Palmerston North by SwampFest 05. In its second year SwampFest 05 is a three day music festival featuring original music by Palmerston North bands.

Named for the city’s origins as a primordial swamp, the title belies the diversity and quality of music on offer. SwampFest 05 brings together Ska, Hardcore, Dub, Metal, Pop, Emo and more, reflecting the breadth of the Palmerston North music scene. Palmerston North has a flourishing and supportive music scene and this mix of styles is a perfect indicator of its current depth and strength

Once again Guv’nors Tavern (with a bigger better stage!) is host to the event, with the in-stores held in Mango Music. One of the reasons the music scene is so strong currently is the high level of support musicians receive from community groups and businesses alike - original music is nurtured through The Stomach (a community recording studio), played on Radio Control, performed at Guv’nors, and sold at Mango Music.

The strength of the scene is indicated in the exponential growth of SwampFest 05. The inaugural festival held in 2004, featured 8 bands over two nights. Following on from its success, SwampFest 05 will run for three days, featuring 14 bands, three shows, and 2 live in-stores.

The PN Community Arts Council has confirmed funding for a DVD of the SwampFest 05 experience (to be released June 3rd!), and advance plannning for next years SwampFest 06 is already underway.

SwampFest 05 is a non-profit festival shamelessly promoting the wealth of talent in Palmerston North. Co-ordinated by local musicians, with generous support from local businesses and volunteers, all proceeds go straight to the bands so that the growth of original music in Palmerston North can continue.

SwampFest 05 is made possible by Radio Control 99.4, Audio Progress Ltd, Guv’nors Tavern, Mango Music, Outpost Digital Media, PNCAC and NZ Rockshops.
